Joe Quesada helmed his trademark Cup O’ Joe panel Saturday evening at New York Comic Con. In addition to some frank answers about the genesis of Daredevil: Father and the reason Marvel Age books won’t show up on grocery store checkout racks anytime soon, Quesada announced new Marvel exclusive artists Arthur Suydam and Marko Djurdjevic. Also among the assorted announcements was the event that will pick up the wreckage left in the wake of the company’s space-spanning Annihilation event.

Quesada brought a host of friends along for the panel, including writer C.B. Cebulski, editor Dan Roseman, publisher Dan Buckley, Arthur Suydam, writer Christos Gage and Assistant Manager of Sales Communication Jim McCann, who kicked off the slideshow.

Spider-Man: One More Day was first on the lineup with a look at artwork from J. Michael Straczynski’s and Joe Quesada’s series, which is slated for an August release. A quick look at Daredevil: End of Days by Bendis, Bill Sienkiewicz and Klaus Janson with cover work by David Mack and Alex Maleev followed.

Roseman previewed his lineup of Annihilation follow-up titles, including Annihilation: Conquest Prologue by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning with art by newcomer Brian Denham and cover art by Aleksi Briclot. Roseman jumped on the chance to plug Denham as an artist to watch at Marvel right now. “He’s a guy you’ll be hearing a lot more of,” the editor stated. The series is tagged for a June premier.

Also on the line-up was Annihilation: Conquest: Quasar by Gage, Eric Basaldua, Rick Basaldua and Matt Wilson, which will follow in July and focus on Quasar and Moondragon.

The cover to Annihilation: Conquest: Starlord, which featured classic Marvel icons Rocket Raccoon and Broot, got the lion’s share of the crowd reaction for the artwork that McCann projected at the front of the room. Keith Giffen will write the series with artwork by Timothy Green II and Nic Klein. “This book is Nick fury and his Howling Commandos in space,” said Roseman. The series ships in July.

Marvel unveiled a first look at Annihilation: Conquest: Wraith by Javier Grillo-Marxuach with art by Kyle Hotz and Clint Langley, which also hits in July, featuring a brand new title face for the Marvel U. Even Quesada geeked out for a moment when he announced Orson Scott Card’s new Marvel project through the Dabel Brothers. “Orson agreed to pen us a new story that’s in the Ender’s Game universe,” Buckley said proudly, continuing that the chapter appearing in July’s Red Prophet hardcover will be called “The Gold Bug.”

C.B. Cebulski took center stage for the announcement of Marvel’s new magic-centric line of four one-shots called Mystic Arcana. The line will feature creator Louise Simonson, Roy Thomas, C.B. Cebulski, David Sexton, Jeff Parker and Marko Djurdjevic and roll out in June. Parker will writer Scarlet Witch, Louise Simonson will pen Magik, and two handbooks will bookend the titles.

Writer Stuart Moore popped up from the crowd as a latecomer to the front of the room. Moore will write New Avengers/Transformers with Top Cow talent Tyler Kirkham and land on shelves July 5 to coincide with the release of the Michael Bay “Transformers” film.

“The thing that appeals most to me is that it’s the best reason for a widescreen comic I’ve ever heard of in my life,” Moore emphasized. The first cover features are by Jimmy Cheung.

Finally, Quesada announced Brian Michael Bendis’ and Alex Maleev’s summer project, a Halo story, which will have more information coming soon.
