About Us

At brasher, the great outdoors is our driving passion. We've come a long way since Chris Brasher had his flash of inspiration on the Roof of Wales and yet we still remain true to the very same lightweight comfort philosophy.

With an authentic, grass roots heritage and unrivalled history in technical innovation we are able to be who we are today - market leaders in outdoor leisure footwear, creating the ultimate walking performance - anywhere.

1956

Chris Brasher wins an Olympic Gold Medal for the 3000 metre steeple chase proving that determination and single-mindedness are just as important as athletic talent. His career takes off in various avenues from BBC sports correspondent, television executive, racehorse owner, to master-minding the London Marathon which was to begin in 1980.

1978

"Why can't walking boots be as comfortable as training shoes?" Chris asks himself while walking the Roof of Wales with his friend Paddy Buckley. After suffering major blisters mid trek, Chris decides to post his stiff, unforgiving boots back home, and continue the 180 mile journey in his New Balance trainers - arriving at his destination without a hitch. Inspired by his experience in Wales, Chris is motivated to design the perfect walking boot - with a lightweight cushioned upper based on a last from the most comfortable running shoe on the market. The very first brasher boot is manufactured and distributed by Fleet foot - distributor of New Balance shoes and subsequently Reebok. The brasher boot is quickly adopted by walkers as the definitive boot for walking in the British Isles, particularly for its inherent comfort, support and lightweight construction.

1992

In a bid to grow the brand, Chris forms a deal with the The Pentland Group and The Brasher Boot Company is born with comfort and lightweight at the core of its philosophy. Today The Pentland Group is the UK's leading sports and fashion brand management group - owners of world famous brands such as Speedo, Ellesse, Kickers, Mitre, Berghaus, brasher and Red or Dead.

"Pentland's mission to develop a portfolio of world class, category leading brands in sports, outdoor and fashion continues to evolve, making brasher part of a very special partnership"

Its dedicated following amongst the walking community contributed to the award of Best Leather Boot by Country Walking readers for 6 years running. brasher also becomes one of the first to make true women's specific product - a strategic move for the company going forward.

With an ultra-light weight upper made from water resistant, high strength Pittards Amortan full grain leather, Supalite GTX became one of the lightest leather walking boots available. Its Gore-Tex Top Dry breathable waterproof membrane, still makes its performance second to none.
