SPECIAL STITCH: js (jump stitch): Draw up a lp in next st of previous row, below the row you are working - 2 lps now on hook, yo and draw through both lps on hook. Do not work in the current row behind js. This will create the zigzag pattern on dress.



GOWN

BODICE
Note: Bodice front will not overlap without front edging. Starting at waist edge, with white thread and size 7 steel hook (or size needed for gauge), loosely ch 40.
ROW 1: (right side): Hdc in 6th ch from hook, * ch 1, sk next ch, hdc in next ch; rep from * across (18 ch-1 sps). Mark last ch worked with contrasting thread or safety pin for start of skirt. Ch 3, turn.
ROW 2: Dc in first hdc, sk next ch-1, sc in next hdc, sk next ch-1, * 2 dc in next hdc, sk next ch-1, sc in next hdc, sk next ch-1; rep from * across, 2 dc in 3rd ch of beg ch-5 (19 dc- not counting beg ch-3, and 9 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 3: Sc in first dc, sk next dc, 2 dc in next sc, * sc between next 2 dc, 2 dc in next sc; rep from * across, sc between last dc and beg ch-3 (18 dc and 10 sc- not counting beg ch-1). Ch 3, turn.
ROW 4: Dc in first sc, sc between next 2 dc, * 3 dc in next sc, sc between next 2 dc; rep from * across to last sc, 2 dc in last sc (27 dc - not counting beg ch-3, and 9 sc). Ch 1, turn.

Shells: The term "shell" will refer to a specified number of dcs worked in one st. Although not stated in st counts at end of each row, there will be a sc between each shell. Do not count beg ch-3 as part of a shell.
ROW 6: Work 3 dc in first sc (forming first 3-dc shell), sk next dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, * 5-dc shell in next sc, sk next dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc; rep from * across to last sc, 3-dc shell in last sc (eight 5-dc shells + one 3-dc shell at each end). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 7: Sc in center (2nd) dc of first 3-dc shell, 5-dc shell in next sc, * sc in center (3rd) dc of next 5-dc shell, 5-dc shell in next sc; rep from * across to last shell, sc in last dc of last 3-dc shell (nine 5-dc shells). With contrasting thread or safety pin, mark sc between 2nd and 3rd 5-dc shells and the center dc of 7th shell (to be used for bodice back and left front). Ch 1, turn.

LEFT FRONT ARMHOLE AND NECKLINE SHAPING
ROW 8: Sk first sc, sl st in first 2 dc of first 5-dc shell, sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc of same shell, 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, 3-dc shell in next sc, sk remainder of row (Row 8 will be continued later) (one 5-dc shell and one 3-dc shell). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 9: Sc in first dc, sk next 2 dc of first 3-dc shell, 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, dc in next sc, sk last 2 sl sts and ch-1 (for start of neck) (one 5-dc shell and 1 dc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 10: Sc in first dc, 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell (one 5-dc shell). Ch 3, turn.
ROW 11: Work 3-dc shell in first sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, 3-dc shell in next sc (two 3-dc shells). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 12: Sc in first dc, sk next 2 dc of first 3-dc shell, 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 3-dc shell (one 5-dc shell). Finish off, do not turn.

BODICE BACK
With wrong side of bodice still facing you, rejoin white with sl st to first marked dc (center of 3rd shell) from Row 7, ch 1. (Do not remove marker.)
ROW 8: Sc in same st as joining, * 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell; rep from * 3 times more, ending with a sc in center dc of 7th shell, sk remainder of row (will be completed later) (four 5-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
ROW 9: Work 3-dc shell in first sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, * 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell; rep from * 2 times more, 3-dc shell in next sc (three 5-dc shells and one 3-dc shell at each end). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 10: Sc in first dc, sk next 2 dc of first 3-dc shell, 5-dc shell in next sc, * sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, 5-dc shell in next sc; rep from * 2 times more, sc in 3rd dc of next 3-dc shell (four 5-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
ROW 11: Rep Row 9.
ROW 12: Rep Row 10, do not ch 3. Finish off, do not turn.
RIGHT FRONT ARMHOLE AND NECKLINE SHAPING
With wrong side of bodice still facing you, rejoin white thread with sl st to 2nd marked sc to left of bodice back from Row 7, ch 3. (Remove both armhole markers leaving only marker at waist edge).
ROW 8: Work 3-dc shell in same sc as joining, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, sk remainder of row (one 5-dc shell and one 3-dc shell). Ch 3, turn.
ROW 9: Sc in center dc of first 5-dc shell, 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 3-dc shell (one 5-dc shell). Ch 3, turn.
ROW 10: Work 3-dc shell in first sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, 3-dc shell in next sc (two 3-dc shells). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 11: Sc in first dc, sk next 2 dc of first 3-dc shell, 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 3-dc shell (one 5-dc shell). Ch 3, turn.
ROW 12: Rep Row 10, do not ch 1. Finish off, leaving a 12-in. end.

JOIN SHOULDERS
STEP 1: Fold right front forward and over bodice back having right sides tog, matching shoulders (see Figure 1). Using 12-in. end and starting at neck edge, sc right front and first shell of back shoulders tog (7 sc). Finish off.
STEP 2: Rejoin white at neck edge of left front shoulder. Fold left front over bodice back and with right sides tog, sc left shoulder seam (7 sc). Finish off, weave in all ends. (Two 5-dc shells will rem unworked for bodice back neck edge.)
STEP 3: Turn bodice to right side.

SLEEVES (make 2)
With right side and waist edge facing you, join white with sl st to center underarm, ch 1.
RND 1: Sc in same st as joining. Work 21 more scs evenly spaced around armhole, join with sl st to first sc (22 sc). Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 2: Work 3-dc shell in same sc as joining, sc in next sc, * 3-dc shell in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3 (eleven 3-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
RND 3-4: Work 3-dc shell in first sc, sc in center dc of next shell, * 3 dc in next sc, sc in center dc of next shell; rep from * around. Join to top of beg ch-3, turn. At end of Rnd 4, do not ch 3. Finish off, weave in ends.


SKIRT

With right side and top of bodice facing you, join white thread with sl st to marked ch at left waist edge, ch 3. (Remove marker.)
ROW 1 (right side): Work 5-dc shell in same ch as joining, * sc in next ch, 5-dc shell in next ch; rep from * across ending with a 5-dc shell in beg ch of bodice (nineteen 5-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
ROW 2: Work 3-dc shell in first dc, sk next dc, sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc, * 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell; rep from * across, work 3-dc shell in 3rd ch of starting ch-3 of previous row (eighteen 5-dc shells and one 3-dc shell at each end). Ch 1, turn.
ROWS 3 (close front opening): Sc in first dc, sk next 2 dc of first 3-dc shell, 5-dc shell in next sc, * sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, 5-dc shell in next sc; rep from * across to 3-dc shell, sc in center dc of last 3-dc shell, join with sl st to beg sc (nineteen 5-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
(Note: From now on you will be working back and forth in rnds.)
RND 4: Work 5-dc shell in first sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, * 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell; rep from * around to last sc, sk last sc, join to top of beg ch-3 (nineteen 5-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
RNDS 5-11: Work 5-dc shell in first dc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, * 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell; rep from * around, join to top of beg ch-3 (nineteen 5-dc shells). Ch 3, turn. (Mark Rnd 11 for ribbon trim to be added later.)
RND 12: Work 9-dc shell in first sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, * 9-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell; rep from * around, join to top of beg ch-3. Ch 3, turn.
RNDS 13-22: Work 9 dc shell in first sc, sc in center dc of next 9-dc shell, * 9-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 9-dc shell; rep from * around, join. Ch 3, turn. (Mark Rnd 21 for ribbon trim to be added later.) At end of Rnd 22, ch 4 (in place of ch 3), turn.
(Note: In Rnds 23-31, you will use a trc- in place of dc- to make shells).
RND 23: Work 13 trc in first sc, sc in center dc of next 9-dc shell, * 13 trc shell in next sc, sc in center of next 9-dc shell; rep from * around, join. Ch 4, turn.
RNDS 24-31: Work 13 trc in first sc, sc in center (7th) dc of next 13-trc shell, * 13-trc shell in next sc, sc in center of next 13-trc shell; rep from * around, join to top fo beg ch-4. Ch 4, turn. At end of Rnd 31, do not ch 4. Finish off, weave in ends.


FRONT AND NECK EDGE

With inside of bodice facing you, join white with sl st to 1st ch-1 sp at Row 1 of left front waist, ch 1.
ROW 1: Sc in same ch-1 sp, work 8 more sc evenly spaced up left front, 11 sc around front neck to left shoulder, 1 sc in each of 13 sts around back of neck, 11 sc evenly spaced from right shoulder around to front of neck, 9 sc down right front ending in ch-1 sp of right front waist (53 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 2: Work 3-dc shell in first sc, sc in next sc, * 3-dc shell in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around to last sc, (3-dc shell, sl st) in last sc (twenty-seven 3-dc shells). Finish off, weave in ends.


GOWN FINISHING

STEP 1: Sew snap to underside of first four 3-dc shells (counting from waist edge) on right bodice front. Sew other half of snap to top side of first four 3-dc shells on left bodice front. Sew hook and eye on inside of skirt to shell just below waist.
STEP 2: Sew one 4 mm pink pearl to top side of first four 3-dc shells on right bodice front.
STEP 3: Sew 4 mm pink pearl to right side of each 3-dc shell on Rnd 4 of sleeve (11 pearls per sleeve).
STEP 4: Cut a 22-in. length of 1/8-in. mauve ribbon. Beg at center front on Rnd 11, weave ribbon over each 5 dc shell and under each sc (remove marker). Tie ribbon into a bow and trim ribbon ends on an angle. Cut stem off one ribbon rose and sew (or glue) rose to center of bow and to skirt. Sew three 4 mm pearls, evenly spaced around rose- centering one directly above rose and two below as shown on cover picture.
STEP 5: Cut a 25-in. length of 1/8 in. mauve ribbon. Weaving over each 9-dc shell and under each sc on marked Rnd 21, rep Step 4.
STEP 6: Cut stems off 19 ribbon roses. Sew (or glue) one rose to top of each 13-dc shell on Rnd 31 at skirt bottom. Sew three 4 mm pearls around each rose as before.
STEP 7: Cut a 12-in. length of 1/8-in. mauve ribbon. Weave it in and out of ch-1 sps at waist. Put dress on doll. Pull ribbon to fit waist and tie into a bow. Trim ribbon ends on an angle.

NET SLIP

STEP 1: Fold the 13 in. x 36 in. length of net in half (see Figure 2). Pin raw edges tog. Do not press folded edge.
STEP 2: Loosely sew back seam of slip closed with white sewing thread. With 1 yard of elastic thread doubled, gather netting tightly with a basting st about 1/4 in. from waist edge (through both layers) to loosely fit doll's waist. Knot ends securely.
STEP 3: Put slip on doll.





PURSE

Starting at bottom of purse with white thread, ch 5. Join with sl st to beg ch to form a ring. Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 1 (right side): Work 12 dc into center of ring, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3 (12 dc- not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 2: Work 2 dc in each dc around, join to top of beg ch-3 (24 dc- not counting beg ch-3). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 3: Working back lp of sts for this rnd only (front lps) rem unworked, sc in each dc around, join to beg sc (24 sc). Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 4: Work 3-dc shell in same sc as joining, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc, sk next sc, * 3-dc shell in next sc, sk next sc, sc in next sc, sk next sc, rep form * around, join to top of beg ch-3 (six 3-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
RND 5: Work 3-dc shell in first sc, sc in center dc of next 3-dc shell, * 3-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 3-dc shell; rep from * around, join to top of beg ch-3 (six 3-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
RNDS 6-9: Rep Rnd 5. At end of Rnd 9, ch 4 (in place of ch 3), turn.
RND 10 (drawstring spaces): Sk first sc, dc in center dc of first 3-dc shell, ch 1, * dc in next sc, ch 1, dc in center dc of next 3-dc shell, ch 1; rep from * around, join to 3rd ch of beg ch-4 (12 ch-1 sps). Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 11: Work 3-dc shell in same ch as joining, sc in first ch-1 sp, * 3-dc shell in next dc, sc in next ch-1 sp; rep from * around, join to top of beg ch-3 (twelve 3-dc shells). Finish off, weave in ends.

PURSE FINISHING
STEP 1: Cut two 10-in. lengths of 1/8-in. mauve ribbon. Weave one length of ribbon (first drawstring) through the ch-1 sps of purse Rnd 10. Knot the 2 ends tog. Starting on the opposite side, weave 2nd ribbon (2nd drawstring) through same sps and knot the ends tog.
STEP 2: Staggering placement, sew nine 4 mm pink pearls evenly spaced around purse in 3 rows with 3 pearls per row.
STEP 3: Fill purse with small amount of fiberfill. Cut stem from one ribbon rose to 1 in. and place in purse opening. Pull drawstrings to close purse and tie once.
STEP 4: Hang purse over wrist.

Starting at top center of hat crown with white, ch 5. Join with sl st to beg ch to form a ring. Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 1 (right side): Work 12 dc into center of ring, join to top of beg ch-3 (12 dc- not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 2: Work 2 dc in each dc around, join to top of beg ch-3 (24 dc- not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, turn.
RND 3: Work 3-dc shell in first dc, sc in next dc, * 3-dc shell in next dc, sc in next dc; rep from * around, join to top of beg ch-3 (twelve 3-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
RNDS 4-5: Work 3-dc shell in first sc, sc in center dc of next 3-dc shell, * 3-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 3-dc shell; rep from * around, join to top of beg ch-3 (twelve 3-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
RND 6 (spaces for ribbon trim): * Work 3-dc shell in first sc, sk next 3-dc shell; rep from * around, join to top of beg ch-3 (12 sps). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 7: Sc in same sp as joining, 3-dc shell in center dc of next 3-dc shell, * sc in next sp, 3-dc shell in center dc of next 3-dc shell; rep from * around, join to first sc (twelve 3-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
RND 8: Work 5-dc shell in same st as joining, sc in center dc of next 3-dc shell, * 5-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 3-dc shell; rep from * around, join to top of beg ch-3 (twelve 5-dc shells). Ch 3, turn.
RND 9: Work 7-dc shell in first sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell, * 7-dc shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next 5-dc shell; rep from * around, join to top of beg ch-3 (twelve 7-dc shells). (Your joining st is at the back of the hat.) Finish off, weave in ends.

HAT FINISHING
STEP 1: Cut 18-in. length of 1/8-in. mauve ribbon. Beg at back of hat and weave ribbon through sps of hat Rnd 6. Tie ribbon securely into bow. Trim ribbon ends on an angle.
STEP 2: Cut stem off one rose and sew (or glue) it to center of bow and to hat.
STEP 3: Sew one 4 mm pink pearl to top of each 7-dc shell of Hat Rnd 9 (12 pearls).
STEP 4: Place hat on head with rose to the back.
