Emmanuel Adebayor

Profile

Emmanuel Adebayor is a Togolese striker who joined Arsenal in January of 2006. He has been likened to the ex-Gunner Kanu because of his style of play and gangly movements on the pitch. Adebayor has chosen the number 25 shirt because he idolises Kanu, who wore the shirt before him.

Adebayor started his career with French club Metz before falling out with the coach and being transfer listed. Arsenal were interested at the time, but lost the race to sign him and Adebayor joined AS Monaco instead. In 2003-04, he scored 7 goals in 17 matches and helped Monaco to the Champions League final.

Adebayor is a full international for his country and helped Togo qualify for the World Cup in Germany, scoring 11 goals in the qualifiers.

He is a tall player, and seems more content to lead the attack high through the middle rather than drop deep or to the wings, like Henry. Ars´┐Żne Wenger: "He has qualities that we don't have in the side. He is tall, good in the air and makes good runs. He is a bit of a Kanu type but he goes in more behind the defenders."
