Williams, Ferrari wrap up Italian tests
Narain Karthikeyan (IND) Williams Fourth Driver.
Formula One World Championship, Rd 2, Malaysian Grand Prix, Qualifying Day, Sepang, Malaysia, 18 March 2006

Williams had Mark Webber and Narain Karthikeyan at the wheel of the FW28, the Australian and the Indian carrying out different programmes in the Cosworth-powered machine, as test team manager Mike Condliffe explained.

“We had a very busy final day here at Vallelunga with plenty to cover on the test programme,” he said. “Today Narain was testing some aero modifications, brake materials and revised brake cooling options, while Mark concentrated on car set-up work again, before moving on to another set of tyre tests.”

“Vallelunga was a key track test for Cosworth,” added Simon Corbyn, Cosworth’s head of Formula One race engineering. “Updated CA2006 engine components, an engine duty cycle increase and the latest engine control system developments were all run successfully and will be available for race introduction at Monaco.”

Webber clocked the best time of the day, a 1m 02.634s after 64 laps. Karthikeyan ran 104 laps, his best a 1m 03.041s.

At Ferrari, Felipe Massa continued working on set-up and development of new components for the 248 F1 in preparation for next weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix. The Brazilian completed a total of 108 laps (nine on the short version of the track,) the quickest in a time of 57.099s.
