Rally for Change!

On Saturday, I held a Rally for Change at the American Legion in Sellersburg. I was joined by local veterans and my wife, Betty, and my youngest daughter, Libby. We had a great turn-out with supporters chanting "Time for Change." And it is time for change.

Our current Congress—and Congressman Mike Sodrel—took pay raises for themselves while cutting benefits for our brave troops and veterans. Our current Congress also took pay raises but voted against increasing the minimum wage and has let healthcare costs skyrocket for hard-working Americans. This same Congress tolerated leaders who have been indicted, convicted, and bribed, and even coddled a child predator.

Our current Congress is in shambles and our leaders have their priorities completely out of whack. We need a change. The 9th District needs a representative who will stand up for the people of Southern Indiana, including our veterans and military families, and not be a rubber stamp for the administration. As your representative, I’ll bring strong Hoosier values to Washington and fight for the hardworking people of Southern Indiana.

I want to thank everyone who came out to the rally on Saturday. I know it was a little chilly, but I can't tell you how much your support means to me. In these last remaining days, I hope you will help me spread our message that if you want change in Washington, then change the people you send.

Ft. Vallonia Days Parade

On Saturday, my wife, Betty, and I participated in the Ft. Vallonia Days Parade. We couldn't believe how many people came out to join in the fun. It was by far the biggest attendance we had ever seen at the parade--it was definitely a huge success. My only regret was that I couldn't stick around to enjoy some of the delicious smelling food coming from the food stands. Next year!

Hospitality from the Heartland

Today, I participated in the Harvest Homecoming Parade in New Albany and then rushed back to my hometown of Seymour to make it just in time for the annual Oktoberfest Parade. I had such a good time seeing everyone in the communities enjoying themselves and celebrating together. I want to thank my friends in New Albany and Seymour for cheering on the Baron Hill volunteers, Betty, and myself as we walked the parade routes. I feel the excitement over the upcoming election in the air, and I appreciate all the support you--the people of the 9th District--have given me. Let's keep up the good work!

Saluting Service and Sacrifice

Yesterday, I joined local veterans in New Albany so I could thank them for their service to our country and renew my pledge to fight for their needs in Washington. I want to thank my good friend and veteran, Mountie Mount, for speaking at the event. I also want to thank Chuck Simon, the Commander of VFW Post 1693, for helping me set up this important event.

Our commitment to our veterans should not end once they return home. I was honored to stand shoulder to shoulder with these heroic men and women. They truly are great patriots and great Americans.

Madison Chautauqua

Despite the rain, I had a great time at the Madison Chautauqua Festival today. The bad weather didn't seem to get the people of Madison down--everyone was out and about and enjoying the local shops and the booths that had been set up especially for the festival. My wife, Betty, and I had a great lunch at the Firehouse Fish Fry and really enjoyed visiting with all of our friends in Jefferson County.

On my drive from Seymour to Madison this morning, I saw a lot of "Baron Hill for Congress" yard signs. I want to thank everyone for their ongoing support--it means so much to me. If you don't have a yard sign and would like one, call my campaign office in Seymour at 812-522-8764.

As I travel all over the 9th District, I really get the sense that the people of Indiana are disappointed with our leaders in Washington, and they want a change. That is what this campaign is all about--change. In Congress, I'll be the independent voice that the people of Indiana need and help our country get back on the right track.

If you'd like to help me spread the message of change throughout the 9th District, please call my campaign office in Seymour. We're in great shape headed toward Election Day, but I need your help. Volunteers are needed to make phone calls, canvas door-to-door, deliver yard signs, and a host of other activities.

News from the trail

The past few days have been busy ones, with stops all around the 9th District. I've very much enjoyed spending full days in Southern Indiana's many beautiful communities. This time around, I'm spending quality time in campaigning -getting to know the people and places of the 9th District's 20 counties.

Wednesday, I spent the day in Orange County, visiting Orleans and Paoli. Special thanks to Rep. Jerry Denbo and Martha Nice for leading me around throughout the day.

The next day found me in Ripley County, where I even ran into Gov. Mitch Daniels at the 4H Fair! I received a great reponse from voters around the county, who recognize that it's time to bring back an independent voice to the 9th District seat. Thanks to Democratic Party Chairman Charlie Cook and Lee Thompson for organizing the day.

Friday I drove down to Dubois County to enjoy a full day in Jasper, where we started at Headquarters Restaurant and ended many hours later at the 4H Fair. There's a lot of energy in Dubois County, and the Democratic Committee is doing great things - they've just opened an office in downtown Jasper.
