Tips

So, you're interested in helping?  This is great!

Here's a little something you'll need to know about helping babies, especially preemies...

MATERIALS... must be soft.  The skin is tender, quite different from our more mature skin.

Please use yarns that are labeled baby, baby sport, soft, etc.

Use 100% cottons on any sewn clothing.

The use of Velcro [hook-n-loop tape] on preemie clothing is frowned upon... the hook side can hurt the preemie's skin.

The use of metal snaps is forbidden.  The lights that warm the babies will also heat up the metal which can burn them.  Plastic snaps are preferred on sewn clothing.

Seams on sewn clothing... either use the French seam method or sew it with the seams on the outside of the garment.

PATTERNS... there are many patterns scattered throughout the internet that can be used.  Most of these are yarn-based patterns.  This is because the directions are simply written out.  Sewn patterns, for most, require a physical pattern and are usually copy-write protected.  Since the intended use of these patterns are for charity, they can typically be bought for a minimal price.
