Hello
I managed to run linux on WRT54G V5
This is not april fool joke.
Warning, this could damage your router!
1. make a backup of your flash via jtag
wrt54g -backup:wholeflash /fc:01
2. erase flash
wrt54g -erase:wholeflash /fc:01
3. flash cfe.bin(this cfe is from wap54g v3)
wrt54g -flash:cfe /fc:01
4. upload example firmware via tftp (probably other firmware for wap54g v3 works too but I tried only this)
tftp -i 192.168.1.245 put openwrt-wap54g-squashfs.trx
Best regards Piotr Gozdur.
Sorry for my english

I don't mean to disregard your work, but version 5 of the WRT54G router still suffers from the 2MB of flash limitation. Other routers natively running linux have only 2MB of flash and the DD-WRT firmwares [even the mini, I believe] require more than the 2MB of space. Until the DD-WRT firmware can fit into that flash size (perhaps by eliminating features), the version 5 is still of less value than a router with 4+ MB of flash space.
If we could get a good set of features into the 2MB of flash, there'd be significantly more routers that could run DD-WRT without buying the crippled version of the WRT54G. I'm sure a good many people would rather NOT buy a version 5 of the Linksys WRT54G so as to tell Linksys (with their wallets) the mistake Linksys made in moving away from Linux and the larger flash size. |

It looks like I was just slightly ahead of myself -- Brainslayer has created a <2MB Micro version of DD-WRT.
I wonder what other routers previously unable to run DD-WRT could now run this excellent firmware. |

i can validate this, the micro version released today will run on with the WAP v3 cfe provided by piotr.
i also fixed the lan port 4 / wan swapping issue which is caused by bad settings in the WAP v3 cfe _________________ one cigarette costs 2 minutes of your life.

I've been waiting for this good news.
Which micro version should be used to flash a v5 router?
It sounds like they take a .trx file--but is that created by editing a .bin file or is it available as a download? _________________ <--Have you contributed to DD-WRT yet? |

the micro_generic.bin must be used for tftp _________________ one cigarette costs 2 minutes of your life.

So what is the exact procedure? Do you have to do what piotr_gogo did first, and then tftp?
This is way cool by the way!

yes. you have exactly todo what piotr instructs. after jtag flashing if the cfe you can start with tftp. its the same instruction. just flash dd-wrt.v23_micro_generic.bin and not openwrt _________________ one cigarette costs 2 minutes of your life.

Hello three things i wish to know
This modification works on WRT54GS v5 as well ?
Jtag for windows work as well too ?
After all this the firwmware will be upgradable by http like other linksys or we will have to use TFTP upgrade each time ?
Thx for your answer |

one questions:
what´s the different between den V4 and V5 Hardware (without the Flash 4 / 2 MB)?
why do you need the CFE from WAP and don´t use the WRT V4 CFE?
is there another way to flash V5 without JTAG the CFE bevore? |

@BrainSlayer
We don't have a chance to get dd-wrt (micro) work without JTAG? |

currently there is no other way until we found out how to create a vxworks compatible firmware image. _________________ one cigarette costs 2 minutes of your life.

you could probably use the vxworks header file , and/or have it internally named vxworks.bin as thats what the v5 looks for |

I guess that, if that is true, there will be a one file download -> flash solution that works for the average Joe Sixpack, right?? (If you would want to run DD-WRT on the v5, that is. |
