TV Ratings - Regional TV Diary

Although Nielsen Media Research no longer provide ratings based on people meter measurement in Australia, we do still provide the industry currency for television ratings in the Regional Diary markets.

Diary markets are regional television markets that are not included as part of the regional television people meter markets. This is mainly due to the remoteness and geographical size of these markets.

Traditionally the diary markets were known as ‘solus’ markets as they generally had only one commercial television signal. However, all of these markets now have two commercial stations.

The markets that are surveyed by Nielsen Media Research using the diary method are (Commercial stations listed within the market):

  • Regional WA (GWN, WIN WA)
  • Darwin (NTD-9, STHN CROSS)
  • Pt Pirie/Broken Hill (GTS/BKN, SC 10)
  • Riverland/Mt Gambier (WIN SA, WIN TEN)
  • Remote Central & East (IMPARJA, STHN CROSS)
  • Mildura (WIN, PRIME)
  • Griffith (WIN, PRIME)

Note: The commercial stations within the Pt Pirie/Broken Hill, Riverland, Mt Gambier and Remote C&E markets make up the Central Television Network.

The TV Diary surveys are conducted upon request. The stations from each market decide when they wish to be “in survey”. Each survey is usually for a period of 2-4 consecutive weeks.
