One year Swedish language course

The College Course in Swedish is intended for non-Swedish-speaking students who plan to study at Linköping University. It is an intensive, one-year and full-time course, designed to give the general requirements in Swedish and civics for university studies.

Students admitted to the College Courses for beginners are admitted to a 4-week introductory course as well starting in the beginning of August.

College Course for international applicants, 7,5 + 60 credits

It is an intensive, one-year full-time course and may not be counted as part of a university degree in Sweden.

When applying for the College Course in Swedish, international applicants apply for subsequent undergraduate studies at Linköping University as well, with the exception of Masters programmes and the Medical programme. The chosen programme or single subject course must be stated on the application form.

Application period for international applicants who need a residence permit for guest students is September 1 - December 1. The course starts in the beginning of August the following year.

Admission requirements are:

  • completion of an upper secondary education giving eligibility to university studies in the country of study and corresponding to the same level in Sweden.
  • skills in English corresponding to the level of English A; for example TOEFL (500/173/61) or IELTS) (5,0, no band lower than 4,5) is a requirement as well.

College Course for local applicants

Semester 1, 7,5 + 30 credits

It is an intensive full-time course. The aim of semester 1 is that students should acquire a basic knowledge of Swedish and develop their language proficiency as well as gaining familiarity with Swedish society and the Swedish system of education.

Passing an additional 4-week introductory course , starting at the beginning of August, is mandatory. To gain eligibility to university studies students need to pass the second semester of the College course as well.

Admission requirements are:

  • completion of an upper secondary education giving eligibility to university studies in the country of study and corresponding to the same level in Sweden.
  • skills in English corresponding to the level of English A; TOEFL (500/173/61) or IELTS (5,0, no band lower than 4,5) is a requirement as well.

To be accepted to the second semester a pass grade is required on the first-semester final examination in December. Application deadline is April 15.

Semester 2, 30 credits

Local applicants with knowledge of Swedish equivalent to the first semester of studies on the College Course in Swedish may apply for the second semester, see link below.

The application deadline is 15 October.
