The Sound And the Fury

For the July 2004 issue of SmartMoney magazine, legendary rocker and sonic perfectionist Lou Reed filled his SoHo loft with five pairs of speakers from the biggest names in home audio to see whose performance prowess is worthy of the SmartMoney Award. Using some of his own music, Reed put the Klipsch RB-75, MartinLogan Clarity, Bowers & Wilkins 704, Infinity Primus 360 and Bose Acoustimass 5 Series III to the test. Because of their astounding sound and detailed performances, the RB-75s blew Lou away and were crowned the winner.

When Lou Reed listened to the Klipsch RB-75 bookshelf speakers he was "astounded" by their sound. He said, "I know this stuff [song content] and I know that guitar, and I'm surprised by the details of it."

Obsessed with the sound quality of recorded music, Reed, without hesitation, said he'd pay money NOT to hear the Bose Acoustimass and eagerly declared that, "those Klipsch are...unbelievable; these things can do anything."
