The Pipeshaft tells the story of the infrastructure of the Washington Metrorail system. It focuses not on trains or stations, but on the infrastructure that supports them such as electric substations and ventilation shafts. If you have ever walked down a city street and swore you heard a train whooshing by beneath your feet, then this site is the place for you.
Points of interest (which I call "sites") are organized by line. So to get around, simply click on the line in the upper-right corner that interests you. A strip map will appear on the left hand side of your screen to help you navigate.
Finally I diversify beyond the Red Line. The first Green Line sites have been added. See the Green Line page, or go directly to Buchanan Street Vent Shaft, North Capitol Street exit, and Shaft VE-14. I have still more photos to add, so stay tuned...
Pipeshaft is still new, so there isn't much here yet. It's safe to say I discriminate: right now most of the sites I've catalogued are on the Red Line. But I'll be adding new photos and sites all the time. An easy way to stay up to date is to subscribe to one of the RSS feeds which will inform you whenever I add a new site or photograph.
