The City Walks for Fun
MTR Hong Kong Race Walking 2006
Over HK$1.2 million Raised for Health Education
One thousand race walkers pounded the pavement in the
Central Business District on 9 April 2006 for a good cause – a healthy
Hong Kong. The participants hailed from all walks of life and included
30 local business and community leaders as well as representatives from
50 leading Hong Kong companies and organisations. There were also participants
from schools together with individual race walkers. The event raised more
than HK$1.2 million dollars for the Hospital Authority Health InfoWorld's
"Better Health for a Better Hong Kong" health education campaign.
Adding much excitement to what has become Hong Kong's
biggest and most colourful race walking event, China Race Walking and
Olympic champion, Ms Wang Liping, came all the way from Dalian to join
in the competition. Her participation gave Hong Kong people a rare chance
to appreciate her winning form.
