D.U.C.K. is the little word Don Rosa writes in the 'splash' panel (the first panel) of his stories as a dedication to his great idol Carl Barks. It is a an acronym of 'Dedicated to Unca Carl from Keno'. (Keno is Don Rosa's first name which he doesn't use in connection with his work)

Don has written this dedication since the first story he drew - The Son of the Sun, and has started writing it in his covers and other 'one page drawings' also. In the beginning he just wrote it in a corner, but the publishers thought it was kind of a signature so they deleted it. Therefore there are still some publications of Don's stories where you won't find it. Because the dedication was often deleted he started hiding the word in the pictures. It can be the leaves of a flower or in some other way hidden in the lines of the drawing. If the splash picture contains a flower or a broom that is a good place to start looking for the D.U.C.K. dedication.

But also rectangular surroundings are a good place to look. Especially look for the K since the three other letters can be 'squared' so they look like the other lines around them, but often the K discloses the whole thing since it's hard to draw that letter as a square and still have it look like a K.

Now that he hides it and has told the publishers what it really is they only rarely delete it. You might not be able to find it even in Don's newest story, though, but if that happens it's most likely because it was lost in the colouring process (which Don does not do). Don has even once said that he had hidden a dedication so well that he forgot about it himself when he inked the drawing and accidently inked the dedication over.

WARNING: On this page all the D.U.C.K. dedications are disclosed! Looking further into this page will take away the fun of searching for the D.U.C.K. dedication. Use it to confirm your self in your findings or if you're completely lost.

Enjoy the search for D.U.C.K.s! :-)
