Rugby league star Willie Mason has apologised to a Sydney sports reporter for humiliating her while she was trying to do her job.

Michelle Keighran, who reports rugby league for Sydney radio station 2GB, says Mason was "stupid and immature" when she attempted to interview him at Sydney airport last night.

The Bulldogs star was with other members of the Australian team travelling to Brisbane ahead of Friday night's Anzac Test against New Zealand.

Keighran says Mason refused to be interviewed and then tried to disrupt her interviews with other players by yelling and imitating rap artists.

She says she was made to feel uncomfortable by Mason "belittling me as a female in front of a bunch of blokes".

"There was no abuse but I'm just humiliated," she told radio station 2KY.

She believes Mason has a dispute with Ray Hadley, who calls rugby league for her station.

Mason phoned her to apologise this morning.

"She got upset but I think she's accepted the apology," said Australian team media manager Tristan Hay.

"We've all moved on now, so it's all good."

The ARL said Mason had intended no personal offence to the interviewer.
"He informed her that his interaction with other team mates was meant to be no more than a joke against them and that it was not directed at the interviewer nor was it intended to offend,'' the ARL said in a statement.

Test coach Ricky Stuart reminded his players of the need to behave professionally at all times.

The ARL said Mason would not be giving interviews for the rest of the week.

Keighran said she believed she was caught in the middle of a dispute between Mason and her station's league commentator Ray Hadley.

Keighran said Mason yelled across the check-in counter to other players saying: "Oh, when did you know you were in the side? I was told two weeks ago".

Keighran has interviewed Mason previously without incident. She said that Bulldogs officials had later told her he was upset about the 2GB presenter Ray Hadley's repeated references to his imitation of urinating using a water bottle in last week's game.

"His behaviour tonight was a prime example of him having no balls, because if he has an issue with Ray then he should take it up with Ray, not humiliate me," Keighran said.
