Description
This is the first chapter in my series 'The Chronicles of Lone Wolf', based on the Lone Wolf gamebook series of the '80's.
This module was revised as of 8/7/2005. To play this module, you will need to create a new character, using the custom Kai Lord class provided with the module. You will also need to make your character Male, and use the name 'Lone Wolf'. This is done for story purposes. Other than that, you are welcome to customize your character as you see fit.
The Kai Lord class grants you one special feat per level from a 'Kai Discipline' feat list. You will have to use this extra feat on the Kai Discipline list. Please refer to the in-game descriptions for the abilities granted from these Kai Disciplines.

Hi,
Enjoyed this mod. and looking forward to the second installment. The only "Lone Wolf" that I ever owned was book #5 the "Shadow on the Sand" by Joe Dever and Gary Chalk. (Which I still have.)
Just the facts from Max

Plays like a good movie.
THE GOOD
.Dialogue really shines, and combined with strong characters, cliche but effective events, make it superlative in this module.
.No XP for kills encourages alternate task resolution (e.g., stealth works in the Lord of the Hill), as well as the use of abilities which might normally have been shunned because they soak XP (e.g., using an Animal Empathy Dominated animal).
.Key characters show strong personality, if rather archetypical.
THE BAD
Miscellaneous observations:
.Overall, this module could still use some polishing and debugging, but the flaws do not break the game, and will generally not be noticed. For example:
> Storm Hawk has Kai Test dialogue in the Master's Barracks when he should not be there at all, but in the Tower of the Sun.
>Blank journal entry "JT_THE_TEST_OF_SPIRIT".
>Riddle answer variants need to be accounted for more. E.g., Steps vs. footsteps.
.Constant prostration before the Grandmaster was a bit much.
THE WIERD
.Due to update 1.68, the cloak given to the character has a second Bioware cloak flowing in and out. Did not notice any problems per se, however, so it's probably just cosmetic.
OVERALL
If you enjoy something like Harry Potter for the interplay of characters, definitely download this module. The first part is composed of what could be called juvenile drama, and I really wondered if the students ought not all be using halfling models (to make them "teens") to reflect the age they act.
The second part, the serious test part of the module shows excellent alternative-to-combat-resolution scenarios that very rarely appear in modules. Just to play through those is worth downloading this module.

the answer is 729, just multiply it by 9

SPOILER REQUEST:
I'm at my wit's end trying to figure out one of the riddle:
6561-___-81-9
It seems like it should go 6561 -> 171 -> 81 -> 9
but that doesn't work.

Incredible recreation of the Lone Wolf world. This first module does a wonderful job of introducing you to that world, while introducing seeds to fuel further adventures. _________________________ Shifter Expanded Classes hak

Was that a joke?
Anyways, you're probably refering to Shadows of Undrentide, an expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights.
I'm told that I must have Shadows of Something installed before I can play this module.
I've installed ALL of the refrenced "hakpacks," and still recieve this error. Can anyone offer me some help please?

Dont confuse character development with character LEVELING... there is plenty of development.. and you do level, one level per module. And with the custom CLASS, Skills, Feats, etc this truely becomes awesome.

I have finished the module and I think this module, although short and with ordinary beginning, has a good story telling. I just long for the coming of part 3... _________________________ May the world be full of Benevolence, Mercy and Wisdom

Wonderful little mod with a nice Harry Potterish/Jedi Knight storyline, if you are looking for something other then hacking & slashing demons and goblins, this is the mod for you, though I can imagine some players having issue with the fact there is no char development or leveling making it more an adventure then a rpg. Nonetheless I was very impressed, bring on part II.

Just one question, the module description says it works on all versions, but the hakpack says it needs both expansions. Do I have to use the hackpack, or can I play the mod without it?

Hey, I'm having a problem where during the Test of Fire, everytime I enter the middle room in the giak cave the game crashes. I've tried entering the room from all three doors, and I even replayed the module up to this point, thinking that perhaps my save had been corrupted. Long story short nothing's working so fair; any idea what might be going on here? I'm running NWN 1.66 with SoU, HotU, and CEP all installed. Any advice you could offer would be much appreciated.
Also wanted to say that I played the original modules and had a blast, but from what I've seen of this redux so far you've blown the originals out of the water. Except for this game stopping bug, this is by fair the most fun I've had playing NWN in quite some time; I can't wait for LW3.

You can't take ambidexterity or two-weapon fighting at with the Kai Lord class.
In addition (I assume this is unfixable) you need at least Wis 11 to create a Kai Lord.
I wonder ... would this class work with the character creator?
Posted by Anonymous ( 24.1.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-10-24 19:22:45
so you installed the main hackpack, then patch 1.11, then the LW2 hak?
Make sure to install all three, in this order

I just tried to open the mod in the toolset to see if I could find what was missing and the mod failed to open, saying "the following hak files are needed but not present" (or something like that) there is a list of 11 files starting with lw_tilesets on to lw_2dA_main. Are these haks not included in your .exe install files? _________________________ Guy Coderre
I downloaded all the files on this page, as well as all the files on the Lone Wolf 2 page and installed them all. However, the mod won't load and I get the "missing hak" message. I have re-installed all the files over again and this problem persists. I am running NWN 1.66 + PRC 1.52. I would really like to play your mods, so please help me out. _________________________ Guy Coderre

wait.. it IS avilable... just for another module of yours... I can access it from chapter 2, but not from chapter 1 of lone wolf... ARRR... the upgrade to the new system must have broken some links... please ask them to fix it. _________________________ I do not have a superman complex; for I am God, not Superman!

Please make your profile public so we could access it from within a module's page (ie, this page). With the new nwnvault interface the "other modules by this author" link is now ONLY available within said author's profile (which is PRIVATE and can ONLY be access by himself by default!) _________________________ I do not have a superman complex; for I am God, not Superman!

Yep, I have both SoU and 1.66 installed - although it's always possible that something didn't install correctly. Not a big deal as long as I can continue with module 2. Thanks :)

Zurai, just out of curiosity, do you have the Shadows of Undrentide expansion pack installed? That Blackguard voiceset came with that expansion, if I'm not mistaken, so if its not installed, that may be the cause of the crash.
As for the cutscene crash, yes, you could export the character and just start Chapter 2. You'll automatically be bumped up to level 2 on starting the Chapter 2 anyway, so the only thing you'd miss out on would be a few potential items (and at the point you are at, you've probably already gotten everything anyway).
Strange that the cutscene would be causing problems there, though. Are you patched to version 1.66 of NWN? If not, that too could be a potential cause of the problem.
Well, I finally found the problem with Master Iron Hammer: it wasn't his portrait, it was his voiceset. As soon as I changed it from Blackguard to Dark Brooding Hero, everything worked fine.
Unfortunately, I'm now stuck at the end of the Test of Kai. After completing all four tasks and being returned to the Tower of the Sun, I cannot move. Saving and restoring does nothing, resting does nothing. I'm not positive but I think either there's a cutscene paralyze effect still applied, or the cutscene itself didn't end properly. Is there anything I need to have from the remaining part of the module, or can I safely export my character and just load up module 2?

Great blend of scripting and storyline. A good effort was made to keep the immersiveness, and I appreciate that. The puzzle-type things were actually difficult, but there was usually another way around...unlike another series of modules that comes to mind. I give it a ten, and it ranks with Honor Among Thieves on my favorites list.
I haven't been in town much over the last week, so I apologize for not posting sooner.
Zurai, you may want to try opening the module, changing the blacksmith's portrait to one of the standard BioWare portraits, and see if that fixes the problem. The only possible cause of this error that I can think of would be portrait related. If that doesn't work, I suspect there's something causing problems at the hardware/OS level of your PC, as this is the first time I've heard this bug reported.
Darkpanda, what kind of .bic file are you trying to install? The installer for this module is a simple .exe NWN installer file, so you shouldn't have problems with that. I guess I'm just not clear on what you are asking for.
Shin, while I do still have the old versions of the Lone Wolf modules, I'd recommend sticking with these. The new ones in development right now will require characters from the revised modules to work as intended. If you really, really just want the old ones, though, I suppose I can email them to you.

Thank you for this. I have played yor module in one season. It is full of new, fresh ideas, good scripting scenes and events and full of ridles. I like this stile and to play the charakter with only a level one Kai Lord make's it dificult but so much more interesting. Sometimes I must load a game ten or more times, but I cant stop to play. Sorry for my bad english, I am german... ;)
