The official handover of the dossiers for the second phase of the UEFA EURO 2012™ bidding process took place at the House of European Football in Nyon today.

Three candidates
Representatives of the three candidates - Croatia/Hungary, Italy, and Poland/Ukraine - presented their bids before handing over the official dossiers to the UEFA President, Lennart Johansson, and the UEFA Chief Executive, Lars-Christer Olsson.

Delegation heads
The Croatia/Hungary delegation was headed by Croatia's Prime Minister Ivo Sanader; Giancarlo Abete, vice-president of the Italian Football Federation, spoke on behalf of Italy; and former Olympic champions Serhiy Bubka and Irena Szewińska presented the Poland/Ukraine dossier.

'Great commitment'
"I take this opportunity to congratulate the three candidates for having got this far in the bidding process," said Mr Johansson. "You have all shown great commitment and involvement throughout this whole procedure. I was very pleased with the quality of your phase-one dossiers and we look forward to going through the second ones as well. You are competing to host one of the world's top sporting competitions."

Final decision
The next steps of the process will involve evaluations of the bid documents and site visits to the candidate countries. The appointment of the hosts will be made by the UEFA Executive Committee at their meeting in Nyon on 8 December 2006.
