As part of our 25th Anniversary season-long celebration, the Devils asked their fans to vote for the top 25 memorable moments in New Jersey Devils history. Over 80,000 votes were received. Niedermayer Wins Norris
June 11, 2004


Scott Niedermayer is awarded the Norris Trophy as league's best defenseman, the first time a Devil receives the honor.

Uniform Change
January 29, 1992


Devils announce the club will modify its uniform design for the 1992-93 season. The team changes its colors from red, green, and white to red, black, and white.

Daneyko Wins Masterton / Gomez Wins Calder
June 15, 2000


Scott Gomez receives the Calder Trophy as top rookie and Ken Daneyko is awarded the Bill Masterton Trophy for perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.

Team Arrives in New Jersey
May 27, 1982


Dr. John J. McMullen, Brendan Byrne, and John Whitehead purchase the Colorado Rockies and receive NHL approval to shift the franchise to New Jersey's Meadowlands.

Lemieux Torches Flyers
June 11, 1995


Claude Lemieux scores the game-winning goal in Philadelphia (Game 5 of the EC Finals); the Devils would clinch the series two nights later with a 4-2 victory.

Scott Stevens Ices Penguins
May 22, 1995


Scott Stevens scores game-winning goal in Game 2 of EC Semi Finals vs. Pittsburgh. The Devils would go on to win the series 4-1.

Cup # 2
June 10, 2000


Jason Arnott's goal at 8:20 of the second OT in game six at Dallas gives the Devils their second Stanley Cup Championship. Scott Stevens is awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs.

December 8, 1998


Ken Daneyko becomes the Devils' all-time games played leader by appearing in his 935th contest.

Devils Win 1st Playoff Series
April 14, 1988


Devils win first playoff series in team history by defeating the New York Islanders in six games. The win occurs in the team's first-ever playoff series.

Devils Win 1st Patrick Division Championship
April 30, 1988


John MacLean scores the game-winner in game seven against the Washington Capitals in the Patrick Division Finals as the Devils advance to the Wales Conference Championship.

June 20, 1995


Scott Stevens hits Slava Kozlov and Scott Niedermayer goes end to end to score a crucial game-tying goal as the Devils defeat the Red Wings 4-2 in Detroit.

Devils Clinch 1st Playoff Berth
April 3, 1988


John MacLean scores the game-winning goal in overtime as the Devils defeat the Blackhawks, 4-3, to clinch the team's first-ever playoff spot.

May 23, 2003


Jeff Friesen scores the series-clinching goal at 17:46 of the third period at Ottawa to defeat the Senators, 3-2, in game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Back to Back Vezina Wins
2003 & 2004


Martin Brodeur wins his first Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender and repeats the accomplishment the following year. With a 4-3 OT win at Florida, Martin Brodeur becomes the eighth goaltender in NHL history to record 400 wins. He accomplishes the feat in the fewest number of games (735) and at the youngest age (31 years and 322 days) in history.

“The Streak" 
April 18, 2006


The Devils end the regular season on an 11-game winning streak by defeating the Montreal Canadiens, 4-3. The streak marks the longest season-ending stretch in NHL history and the victory gave New Jersey the Atlantic Division regular-season championship, after trailing in the standings by 19 points on January 6. The deficit is the largest for a division winner to come back since the NHL went to a 2-conference, 4-division format in 1974-75 (It went to six divisions in 1998-99). Brian Gionta scored two goals in the victory to set a club single-season record at 48.

Brodeur wins Calder, Lemaire wins Adams
June 16, 1994


Martin Brodeur captures Calder Trophy as top rookie and Jacques Lemaire picks up the Jack Adams Award as the league's top coach.

The Beginning of “Brodeur’s Brilliance”
1993


When an injury to Peter Sidorkiewicz earned an opening night roster spot behind Chris Terreri, Martin Brodeur began his legacy. He began his campaign going 3-0-0 eventually tying a then team record 11 game-winning streak and winning the NHL rookie of the year.

September 3, 1991

Daneyko Honored
March 24, 2006


Ken Daneyko's number three sweater is retired in a pre-game ceremony. Daneyko appeared in a franchise record 1,283 regular season and 175 playoff contests while winning three Stanley Cups.

Brodeur Scores
April 17, 1997


Martin Brodeur becomes just the second goalie in NHL history to record a goal (19:15 of third period) in post-season play during a 5-2 win in game one of Eastern Conference Quarterfinals vs. Montreal.

May 8, 2000


Devils hold Toronto to 6 shots on goal during Game 6 of the EC Semi Finals.

June 9, 2003


Mike Rupp scores the series-clinching goal in game seven as the Devils capture their third Stanley Cup in nine years by defeating the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim four-games-to-three.

Stevens "4 Ever"
February 3, 2006


The Devils honor Scott Stevens by raising his number four jersey to the rafters in a pre-game ceremony. Stevens' number becomes the first one retired in team history. Stevens played in 956 career games for the Devils and captained them to three Stanley Cups.

May 26, 2000


Patrik Elias scores the game winner as the Devils become the first team in Conference Finals' history to erase a three-games-to-one deficit by beating the Flyers, 2-1, in game seven.

Devils win Stanley Cup
June 24, 1995


The Devils become Stanley Cup Champions for the first time in team history by sweeping the Detroit Red Wings in four games. Claude Lemieux is awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs.
