Martin Brodeur wins his first Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender and repeats the accomplishment the following year. With a 4-3 OT win at Florida, Martin Brodeur becomes the eighth goaltender in NHL history to record 400 wins. He accomplishes the feat in the fewest number of games (735) and at the youngest age (31 years and 322 days) in history.

“The Streak"

The Devils end the regular season on an 11-game winning streak by defeating the Montreal Canadiens, 4-3. The streak marks the longest season-ending stretch in NHL history and the victory gave New Jersey the Atlantic Division regular-season championship, after trailing in the standings by 19 points on January 6. The deficit is the largest for a division winner to come back since the NHL went to a 2-conference, 4-division format in 1974-75 (It went to six divisions in 1998-99). Brian Gionta scored two goals in the victory to set a club single-season record at 48.
