Awesome! How hard was it? Are you using drive by wire or did you convert everything to mechanical injection?

Wow! Nice cluster!! Curious because the mileage is so low. I wasn't sure if it was even possible to zero those out. I guess anything is possible.

TOIGHT! LIKE A TOIGER! Man that is some serious work you put into it (I checked your other post in the hybrid forum). I wish I was electronically-gifted also. I'm lucky I don't electrocute myself changing the batteries in my TV remote. How'd you do the accelerator pedal?

quote: Roughly.... what was the total cost for the swap and motor, and how much time? I've got a few friends looking at this option...
I have yet to sit down and total how much it really cost. It may sound strange, but I'm not really concerned. "Do it once, do it right, but don't go wild" was pretty much the way I went at it. When it's all said and done, this Rabbit is still less expensive than buying a new TDI. Heck, it's still less than buying a 1st gen TDI car with tons of miles. And tons more character. The killer on the project was all the little bits. I strongly recomment to anyone wanting to do this, is get the whole car. I just had the engine, ecu, and most of the harness. I had to get a cluster and the other 1/2 of the harness. The conversion would cost about the same as doing a 1.8T into a Rabbit, with about the same difficulty. Oddly enough though, this probably won't earn as much respect as if it were complete 1.8T swap, most likely because people don't understand what all goes in to this sort of thing, and people don't associate a diesel engine with performance. Once I throw a chip and injectors into this thing, I'll be suprising a few people. Maybe at that point I'll put a 1.9T badge on it. I love the prospect of 50+MPG while still having all the performance. As for miles on the odometer, (kilometers actually...) it's a brand spanking new cluster. I was tempted to roll it ahead to the truck mileage with the VAG-com (you can do that to a cluster with less than 100 km on it) but decided just to start at zero and pretend it was a new car. I've actually put more miles on my conversion than were originally on the engine. -Dave

It's not an A4 ignition. It's an A3 ignition from a 2002 Cabrio. Uses the same style of sidewinder key, so you can use a switchblade key. Quote, originally posted by jokerklock » | Did you do the work yourself? |

damn, that's been done the right way! beautiful intergration of the mk4 cluster, and I'm impressed with the details like the flip key. Plus it's a sleeper...and the mk1 roc grille looks great on the truck. have you done a quaife yet? with the torque you'll be putting down.....

Better would be to put an original "diesel" badge on it. When someone behind sees you go quickly on the on-ramp, they will think .
