The American Presidency

There are two main sections to the American Presidency presentation, Background and History and 2004 Election News.

Background and History

This section provides an extensive collection of articles on presidents, elections, and the federal government from five Grolier encyclopedias. The different encyclopedias cater to different reading levels. Click on any category to get to an article list. The list will indicate the sets for which there are available articles. A key to the abbreviations and reading levels is provided.

Facts provides information on each president's life history and cabinet.

Also included in this section is a media gallery with pictures, video clips, and audio clips of presidents. Quicktime 5.0 is required to play the audio and video clips. A video clip will play automatically when its title is clicked. Click the speaker icon to play an audio clip.

This section also includes links to Web sites covering presidential history and quizes on the lives of the presidents.

2004 Election News

This section features news stories from a variety of sources, including Scholastic magazines. Some of the news stories are illustrated, and all include links to related Web sites. Also provided is a collection of Web links relevant to the 2004 presidential elections, including the candidates' Web sites.

Citations

A footnote or endnote should accompany any direct quotations from articles in the American Presidency presentation. The citation should include the title of the article, the title of the encyclopedia the article comes from, the URL, and the date.

For example, if you quote information from the Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia entry on George W. Bush on Election Day, 2004, the credit should read as follows:

"Bush, George W." Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia. Scholastic Library Publishing,  2004 <http://gi.grolier.com/presidents/aae/bios/43pgwb.html> (November 2, 2004).
