Nadal captures Barcelona crown; clay streak reaches 72

Rafael Nadal has been unbeatable on clay.
Barcelona, Spain (Sports Network) - Rafael Nadal continued his amazing run on clay with a straight-set victory over Guillermo Canas in Sunday's final of the Open Seat tennis tournament.

Nadal posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory for his third straight Barcelona crown, while also extending his clay-court winning streak to an incredible 72 matches. He has not lost on the slow surface since a quarterfinal setback to Igor Andreev on April 8, 2005 in Valencia.

The top-seeded Spaniard claimed his 20th career ATP singles title and his second in as many weeks. He beat Swiss superstar Roger Federer last Sunday to capture the Monte Carlo Masters for a third straight year.

It was thought that Canas might be able to give Nadal some trouble, since the Argentine had already beaten Federer twice earlier this year.

Canas had a pair of break points in the opening game of the match, but Nadal saved both and went on to hold serve. Nadal did not face another break point for the remainder of the match.

The 20-year-old Nadal finished off Canas in just an hour and 40 minutes on the way to his third title of 2007. He also won at Indian Wells earlier this year to snap a 12-tournament title drought dating back to the 2006 French Open.
