Reviews "Ed, Edd n Eddy: Complete Second Season": The Mighty Eds Return

The end of April brings us the DVD release of Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Complete Second Season; the first season was released at the end of last year. I wish that other series got releases so nicely spaced together.

This second season of Ed, Edd n Eddy is a definite improvement over the first, with stronger writing and tighter character designs and animation. In the final episode you will even notice changes that anticipate the third season. Aside from that, the set includes such excellent stories as "Dear Ed," "To Sir with Ed" and "Cry Ed," and the rest of the season is just a ton of fun to watch.

Perhaps the greatest thing about Ed, Edd n Eddy is how well it holds up to this day. It still feels "new" and it's a ton of fun to watch, for the young and old. I really can't wait for the other seasons of this show to arrive on DVD—it's great rewatching it after all of these years.

The DVD
Ed, Edd n Eddy: Complete Second Seasonis presented in a white, two-disc amaray DVD case with a full, two-page insert that lists all of the episodes and special features on the set. Disc art has Eddy on disc one and Edd on disc two. Menus are in 4:3 and have music over all of the menus (a rarity!) and are simple and easy to navigate.

Video and audio on this release astounded me. Unlike most animation releases, Ed, Edd n Eddy has a flawless video and audio transfer through and through. Video features no interlacing, aliasing or artifacting that I saw and I even frame stepped a few scenes to be sure. The audio transfer is just as clean and clear. Audio tracks on this release include English, French and Spanish with subtitles of the same languages.

The special features for this release are also quite impressive. Danny Antonucci talks a bit about the series in "Behind the Eds," tackling everything from design to how it came to Cartoon Network (on a dare!) and even has some advice for budding animators. It's a very interesting and worthwhile featurette that's great fun to watch. Be sure to watch it when you pick this set up.

The other special features are a step-by-step "How to Draw Ed" (although it moves a bit fast in some spots) and a few Cartoon Network promos as well as a music video entitled "I'm Not Coming In Today." I'm not entirely sure about the music videos origin (whether it was part of an original pitch to Cartoon Network or what), but it features drastically off model versions of the Eds and Sarah, so I'm not entirely sure what was up with it. It was fun to watch, though, and definitely worth checking out.

Overall Ed, Edd n Eddy Complete Second Season is a real treat on all fronts. I doubt I could have enjoyed the release much more, so this release comes Highly Recommended.
