Henry Martynse

Henry Martynse, registered seed grower and respected authority on grain farming, was born in Sandwich , Ontario , in 1927. The son of a United Church minister, he took his schooling in various communities and finished his high school and one year university in Saskatoon .

He bought three quarter sections of land in the Kandahar district in 1947 and commenced farming, becoming a pedigreed seed grower 10 years later. Over the years his farm grew to 17 quarters.

He received the Outstanding Service Award from Saskatchewan Seed Growers in 1978 and the coveted Robertson Associate designation from the Canadian Seed Growers Association in 1982.

Henry served as farmer member of the Saskatchewan Weed Action Committee and SSGA representative on the Saskatchewan Advisory Committee on Grain Crops. He was a member of the cereal and oilseed committee for SeCan.

Deeply involved in community work, Henry served as president of the Wynyard Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Wynyard Hospital Board and councillor of the RM of Big Quill . He was the driving force behind financing and construction of a 20-bed hospital in Wynyard.
