Valley Regional's "Extended Warranty Program"

Nearly eighty-thousand Canadians will die from cardiovascular disease this year.  For many the end will come quickly, dramatically .. with no chance to say good-bye.  Some people might say -- they are the lucky ones!

Many others live with lingering, debilitating symptoms.  But continued research has brought new approaches.

This week on Maritime Magazine, we meet a woman who had the good fortune to have a heart attack at the right time and in the right place.  Marion Cox of North Mountain in the Annapolis Valley won a precious second chance.  She was enrolled in what one doctor at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville calls his "extended warranty program", a rehabilitation scheme that involves supervised exercise and dietary counselling as well as proper medical intervention.

CBC journalist Margot Brunelle met Marion six months ago and has been following her progress since then.  Her documentary explores the hard work and dedication it has taken for Marion Cox to regain her health with the help of the hospital staff.
