The Story of Boneyfiddle

PORTSMOUTH - Frustrated by continuous flooding to Alexandria, the first settlement west of the confluence of the Ohio and Scioto Rivers, historic Boneyfiddle was settled on higher ground, by German immigrants in the early 1800's. Many stories have existed to describe the meaning of Boneyfiddle, from "Boney Fields" of slaughtered pigs, to "Bean Poles", "Good Times", "Good Health", and including one favorite - Bonne Fidele or "Good Will".

Currently Boneyfiddle hosts antique stores, gift shops, a military museum, quaint local restaurants, a micro brewery, and the large outdoor mural in the country. 2000+ feet of artwork depicting the early history of the area adorns the interior of the floodwall protecting the city from the Ohio River's rampages. The river side of the floodwall hosts the local "Wall of Stars", displaying signatures of notable citizens. Spend the day here...
