The stars of the region’s recruitment industry were celebrated in a glitzy awards evening at Sprowston Manor on Friday November 3.

The Archant Norfolk Recruitment Awards recognise the many talented, and often unsung, recruitment teams and individuals within the region.

Now in its sixth year, the 10 categories received the highest number of entries and the highest calibre of candidates yet, making the task of choosing the individual winners a difficult decision.

More than 300 guests from recruitment agencies, human resources departments and advertising agencies attended the black-tie evening where they enjoyed a three-course meal followed by the awards presentation, when the finalists and winners were announced by Rob and Chrissie of Radio Broadland’s breakfast show.

Among the big winners was Norwich-based recruitment company Recruit Direct. It picked up awards in the best recruitment consultant and best recruitment manager categories, as well as the highly-coveted best team title for the second year in a row.

Managing director Lesley Harrison said: “It’s a credit to the hard work of everyone at Recruit Direct that we have had such an incredible night. They might be a small team, but they are perfectly formed!”

The Recruitment and Employ-ment Confederation, the industry’s regulatory body, returned for the fourth year as the main sponsor.

Marcia Roberts, chief executive of the REC, said: “The recruitment industry is central to the economy of the UK and the business continues to grow.
“In the past year the industry has increased its turnover by 5.8pc, which represents nearly £25bn.

“Every year the recruitment industry places 750,000 workers in permanent positions and every day it finds temporary employment for 1.3 million jobseekers, so it’s important that events like the Recruitment Awards continue to recognise that hard work.”

Chris Wood, commercial director of EDP publisher Archant Norfolk, said: “This kind of event is indicative of the strength of recruitment in the county and the strength of the bond between Archant and the industry.”
