TRANSIT COPS SUE ‘RACIST’ MTA

The MTA systematically discriminates against minority transit cops, a $12 million lawsuit by 10 officers alleges.

The suit claims minority transit cops are routinely subjected to racial slurs, passed over for promotions and denied valuable overtime by the state agency, where 96 percent of those holding ranks of captain and above are white.

“I ran into the brick wall at the MTA,” said Detective Marshall Mazyck, a 26-year veteran.

Mazyck, who is black, said he knew he was in for a rough ride in 1984, when he asked a sergeant if he could be transferred to the Anti-Crime Unit.

“He laughed in my face and said, ‘We don’t want n- – – – -s in this unit,’ ” the 52-year-old detective said.

In a statement issued yesterday, the MTA said it would look into the allegations, adding that the agency “is proud of the diversity of its police department” and “committed to a workplace free of any kind of discrimination or harassment.”
