Ashley Tait is a STEELER

Matsos delighted at Tait's signing
Champions Captain Ashley Tait Joins the Steelers
2 Year Contract for the Former Blaze Captain who Lifted 5 Trophies in 3 Seasons

The Sheffield Steelers have made the biggest of summer signings with the news that Ashley Tait has joined them from the Coventry Blaze on a 2-year contract.

Tait, older brother of Steelers forward Warren Tait, lifted 5 trophies for the Blaze as Captain including last seasons League and Challenge Cup double and it was these wining attributes that excited Steelers coach David Matsos "Ashley is a winner first and foremost, he knows what it takes, he knows the sacrifices you have to make and knows how to get past that finishing line first. He comes from a great club and has worked with a great coach so in signing him we have not only signed a super forward who will score lots of goals we have signed a winner, a leader, a competitor and a player that will be here in Sheffield with us for the next 2 seasons

"We had to prove to Ashley that we were serious about winning, serious about doing the little things right that makes us a club that will challenge for every competition we enter. I think after our talks he realised that the Steelers were the right club for him and that this was a team on the up, a team looking to become champions. The Coventry organisation isn't one you walk away from lightly, but I am delighted that a player like Ashley gave us the stamp of confidence that he also beleives that we are going in the right direction to become a Championship club"

Ashley Tait was also delighted at his move "It is a big and exciting challenge for me, I have had 5 wonderful years in Coventry with Thommo and the boys, they couldn't have treated me better and I couldn't have had a better place to apply my trade. Time though moves on and I felt I needed a new challenge and Sheffield have given me this opportunity

"The Steelers were always "The" team and in the past few years haven't hit those high's that were previously expected, now though I sense a change again, I feel that the Steelers are back challenging at the top and for me to help them hit the high's that they experienced some years ago is the challenge. After speaking with Dave Matsos I just felt this was the right move and this was the right time

"I also have the chance to play with Warren, I always wanted to do that at domestic level, not just play on the same side as him but for us to win on the same side together, I think we will do that in Sheffield"
