In November 2007 a selection of evocative black-and-white photographs on contemporary Berlin will be exhibited in the front-of-house spaces in Zankel Hall. These photographs, by Dutch-born photographer Erik-Jan Ouwerkerk, create a visual essay of the city in a state of change and include images of architectural icons as well as lesser known sides of Berlin. The exhibition is curated by Andres Lepik, Chief Architectural Historian at the State Museum of Berlin.

Neue Galerie
Neue Galerie New York—a museum devoted to German and Austrian art of the early 20th century—presents a cabaret series in the Café Sabarsky, an intimate 60-seat room exquisitely appointed with period objects, including lighting fixtures by Josef Hoffmann and furniture by Adolf Loos. The restaurant draws its inspiration from the great cafés that served as important centers of intellectual and cultural life at the turn of the 20th century. During Berlin in Lights, the series will focus on Berlin cabaret.

Berlin in Lights Partner Event Talents: New Photography from Berlin
Goethe Institut
For the exhibition Talents, the Goethe-Institut New York, in collaboration with C/O Berlin, a cultural forum for photography, presents the work of eight up-and-coming photographers. Talents pairs each photographer with a young art critic, creating a dialogue between text and image that explores aspects of the human presence in the urban environment. Talents comprises four consecutive exhibitions, each presenting two photographers. The second exhibition, featuring the work of Tobias Zielony and Frank Berger, opens November 6.
Situated in the vibrant arts district of Mitte, C/O Berlin is at the center of Berlin’s burgeoning photography scene. The Goethe-Institut, Germany’s official cultural institute, organizes and supports a broad spectrum of events worldwide and promotes German culture and international cultural exchange.

Berlin photographer Roland Horn spent seven years documenting, in images, the construction of the new Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Central Station). His photographs depict the complex logistical and technical process that went into building Europe’s biggest railway hub. A selection of some 20 images—most of them in large format—offers a remarkable view into the construction of this extraordinary structure.
