Stena Line Increases North Sea Freight Capacity

Stena Line is proceeding with its expansion on the North Sea by introducing two new larger ferries on the Hook of Holland-Killingholme freight route. The two RoPax ferries of the Stena Seabridger class have been built by Stena RoRo at FMV in Norway and will be ready to operate on the route in June and December 2006 respectively.

"These two new vessels will enable us to give our freight customers a better, faster service in areas of steady growth," said Gunnar Blomdahl, Stena Line Managing Director.

"The new vessels will give the route about 40% more loading capacity when they replace the Stena Seatrader and Stena Searider. The Hook of Holland- Killingholme route has enjoyed positive growth since its launch four years ago and freight customers are clamouring for even more capacity. The freight market between Holland and the UK continues to flourish and the new vessels will enable us to actively improve our service and boost volumes," he added.

The new vessels are better adapted to the route's specific needs since they are more suited for freight transport with drivers and faster operating speeds allowing time schedules to be adapted to the freight customers' needs. More capacity also enhances the Hook of Holland's role as the central hub for sea transports between the continent and the UK.

The investment in new modern vessels is part of Stena Line's strategy to continuously improve customer service and achieve long-term profitability.

"We have invested over EUR 400 million in the past year in new ferries and routes," said Gunnar Blomdahl. "Our investment in these two new vessels is an important step toward improving quality for both freight customers and passengers."
