Marda Loop Business Revitalization Zone
Marda Loop is a unique destination shopping district at the core of
inner city living in Calgary. You will find us just east off Crowchild Trail along 33rd and 34th Avenues S.W.
Our Vibrant and Friendly community is home to over 100 wonderful shops that
will satisfy any shopper, health and beauty services and a wonderful
mix of
restaurants, coffee houses, bars and so much more in this
unique and popular district.
The area has become one of Calgary's most popular outdoor shopping
venues. Businesses
consist of small-scale retailers, coffee shops,
and pubs. The BRZ hosts an annual street festival, the
Marda Gras
Festival, in early August. The area is named after Marc and Mada
Jenkins,
who were the owners of the Marda Theatre (Odeon Theatre),
the name being a combination of their two names. The theatre was
opened in 1953 and closed in 1988. It was demolished 1990.
The BRZ's have a significant impact on Calgary's unique urban
culture through their investment in improving, beautifying and
maintaining the city's business areas.
