ITN Africa Network

This is a network of African resource centres for capacity building in water and sanitation. ITN Africa is part of the International Training Network for Water and Waste Management originally established under a UNDP-World Bank water and sanitation program in the mid eighties.

ITN Africa Network was founded in 1997 by five African ITN centres. These are:

  1. NETWAS International - Network for Water and Sanitation International
  2. CREPA - Centre Régional pour l’Eau Potable et l’Assainissement à faible coût
  3. IWSD - Institute for Water and Sanitation Development
  4. TREND - Training, Research, Education and Networking for Development
  5. NCWSTI - National Community Water and Sanitation Training Institute
  6. NWTI - National Water Training Institute
  7. CFPAS - Centro de Formação Profissional de Águas e Saneamento

Two new institutions have since been accepted to the ITN membership. These are the National Water Training Institute located in Nigeria, and Training Centre located in Mozambique.

NETWAS
Network for Water and Sanitation International is located in Eastern Africa and comprises of a regional center NETWAS International and two national centers - NETWAS Uganda and NETWAS Tanzania. CREPA
Centre Régional pour l’Eau Potable et l’Assainissement à faible coût is located in Ouagadougou Burkina Faso. It has in the past supported the establishment of satellite centres in various countries of French speaking western Africa - Bénin, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Centrafrique, Côte d’Ivoire, Congo, Guinée-Bissau, Guinée-Conakry, Mali, Niger, Sénégal, Tchad and Togo. IWSD
Institute for Water and Sanitation Development is located in Harare, Zimbabwe. The Institute aims to assist in the achievement of sustainable development of water resources and waste management through the provision of support to development agencies in Zimbabwe and the Southern Africa region through training, research, advisory services and information dissemination. TREND
Training, Research, Education and Networking for Development is located in Kumasi, Ghana.
NCWSTI
Community Water and Sanitation Training Institute is located at the University of the North, Sovenga, South Africa.  NCWSTI officially came into being on 10 September 1996. It is an Institute established within the framework of the UNDP/World Bank International Training Management Network for Water and Waste Water Management (ITN) and in accordance with a directive from Minister Kader Asmal in the White Paper for Water and Sanitation (1994). National Water Training Institute is located in Nigeria. Read more...
CFPAS
Centro de Formação Profissional de Águas e Saneamento is located in Maputo, Mozambique. CFPAS is a training centre for water for water and sanitation primarily offering its training courses in Portuguese. The institute caters well for Portuguese speaking African countries. It is currently attempting to review its programmes to cater for neighbouring English speaking countries of Southern Africa. CFPAS was admitted to the ITN Africa Network in 200. Read more ...
