Full support to promote adventure sports: CM

Bhopal, Aug 8: Madhya Pradesh government would extend full support for promoting adventure sports, including sailing, and youths would be encouraged and given training, said Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the nation's first National Sailing School at Boat Club, Upper Lake here on Tuesday. The Chief of India Navy, Admiral Arun Prakash was the special guest of the occasion.

The National Sailing School would offer three courses for different age groups. Reiterating the state government's commitment to promoting adventure sports, Chouhan called upon the youths to participate in adventure sports. The National Sailing School at Bhopal is a step in this direction. He said that the state government would ensure all facilities and arrangements to host international level sports events. He appreciated the initiative of Sports Minister Ms Yashodhara Raje Scindia to make it possible to open the National sailing School at Bhopal.

Chouhan said that adventure sports teach youths to face challenges of life courageously. He hoped that water sports facilities would encourage youngsters to win national and international championships.

The Chief of Indian Navy, Admiral Arun Prakash, who is also president of Yatching Association of India, informed that an Indian sailor would soon set out for a journey of the globe. Necessary preparations are underway. He said that Indian sailors have carried forward cultural traditions since ages. The tradition could be revived by promoting sailing as sports. He said that the historic Upper Lake of Bhopal is an ideal lake for water sports. He congratulated Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Sports Minister Ms Scindia.

Ms Yashodhara Raje Scindia said that the National Sailing School would pave way for other water sports activities. She informed that Mallakhamb, an indigenous sports, would be promoted.

Finance minister Raghavji, Minister of State for Home Nagendra Singh, Vice Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Sports Council Om Yadav, school children, office-bearers of Sports Clubs were also present. Principal Secretary Sports Ms Ranjana Chaudhari proposed the vote of thanks.

Director Sports Sanjay Chaudhari shed light on sports activities. Ms Scindia gave mementoes to the guests. Admiral Arun Prakash presented a model of warship Vikramaditya, inducted into the Indian Navy, to the Director Sports.
