WE ARE THE 'CHAMPIONS'
Take a first look at Barry Kitson's new Marvel celebrities

Been waiting to see Angelina Jolie don a spandex bodysuit and fight crime? Starting in July, The Champions, a new ongoing series by writer Matt Fraction (Immortal Iron Fist) and newly Marvel-exclusive artist Barry Kitson (Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes) may be as close as you’re ever going to get.

Champions follows California’s entry into the post-Civil War 50 States Initiative: A team comprised largely of celebrities known for making a difference through charitable work now getting a chance to step up with superpowers.

“Everybody on the team has one thing in common: They’ve all experienced real world heroism without unstable molecules or cosmic rays,” explained Fraction. “These people are all given a year to achieve something on a superhuman scale.”

VEDA

“She became a multimillionaire and super-famous, then realized there were all these poor people in the world,” explained Fraction. “She can create armies of golems out of organic material, but the problem is she has an emotional attachment to each of them.”

SUPERNAUT

“Supernaut was a war hero [who] came back [as] an international peace activist,” said Fraction. “He was paralyzed, and Supernaut is basically a shell he pilots. It’s capable of destroying California in minutes.”

ANTHEM

“He’s the field leader,” noted Fraction. “He and Tony Stark go way back, and we’ll be exploring that. He’s a TV and movie star who people are kind of ga-ga about.”
