Match scheduleThursday 1 March 2007
The Netherlands are hoping the 2007 UEFA Under-21 Championship is as much of a success as UEFA EURO 2000™ and the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup when the two-week tournament kicks off in the summer. They will also want to impress on the pitch, where the young Oranje face Israel, Portugal and Belgium.
One time is chance; twice is coincidence; but three times and it suggests a habit. The Netherlands have played host to three major international football tournaments since the turn of the century and each has kicked off on 10 June. The top two from each section will progress to the semi-finals, with a place in the final at the Euroborg in Groningen three days later the reward. Should England reach the last four there will also be a play-off between the third-placed sides to decide places for the 2008 Olympic Games on 21 June.
* If a play-off is necessary to decide places for the 2008 Olympic Games.
