Miami, FL, June 26, 2003 – Under sunny skies in Barcelona, Spain, accolades were spoken and tears were shed. Crowds cheered and applauded, and as a magnum of champagne kissed the hull, Regatta’s horn let forth a thunderous roar. A ship had been christened, but more importantly, a new chapter was opened in the annals of cruise history.

Over seven hundred dignitaries, invited guests and officials gathered not just to witness the naming of a ship, but the birth of a new cruise line. It was an emotionally charged day that centered on dedication, friendship and the fulfillment of dreams.

Regatta’s Godmother, Marcia Del Rio paid homage to the dedication and hard work of all those involved prior to releasing the traditional magnum of champagne against the ship’s hull. “There are many who have worked so tirelessly to make this possible, and for that reason, I congratulate each and every one of you on this magnificent achievement.”

Frank Del Rio, President and CEO of Oceania Cruises stated “Oceania Cruises is something special. That something special begins with our people, a team of experienced, dedicated and loyal professionals who are world class in their own right.”  Over the past six months, a cadre of Oceania Cruises management, employees and staff set out to accomplish an almost endless stream of tasks that under normal circumstances, would have taken 12-18 months. “For all of us Oceania Cruises is not just a cruise line, but a labor of love and that’s what makes us unique, makes us distinctive and makes us successful,” added Del Rio.

After the christening ceremony, a Gala Luncheon was held aboard the vessel and guests were treated to the first of many culinary delights. Joe Watters, Chairman of Oceania Cruises presided over the ceremonies during which he remarked, “Oceania Cruises and Regatta have come to life because of the fine men and women onboard who are entrusted with operating the ship and delivering our guests a truly remarkable cruise experience.”  Commenting on Regatta’s sold out inaugural season, Watters added, “Oceania Cruises extends it’s heartfelt thanks to all of its valued guests and travel industry partners who have contributed so much to our success.”

Oceania Cruises was formed in 2002 by cruise industry veterans Frank Del Rio and Joe Watters. Best in class cuisine, destination-rich itineraries, and extraordinary value define Oceania Cruises’ five-star product and have quickly positioned the company as the cruise line of choice for discerning cruisers. Regatta embarks upon her inaugural voyage on July 5, 2003 and will be joined by Insignia on April 3, 2004.

The line’s two intimate and luxurious 684-passenger ships, Regatta and Insignia, feature itineraries to the Baltic, British Isles, Greek Isles, Mediterranean, Black Sea, Scandinavia, Central America, the Caribbean, and Panama Canal.  The itineraries have been tailored to include many overnight port stays to allow guest time to immerse themselves in the history, culture and local flavor of the region.
