Want to become a Destructoid writer?
We have a full team right now, but are seeking console-specific specialists, guys that know a lot about PC hardware as it relates to gaming, and may accomodate very seasoned writers despite having a full house. We only hire up from our Community Blogs, so if you are serious about becoming part of the site you can show us what you got there as we regularly bump submitted articles to the home page. If you are kicking major ass, we will contact you when a position opens up. In the mean time, practice blogging and see how you like it. Do it for the fun of it, you'll meet great people here. Also, one of us is going to get hit by a bus sooner or later.
Here's an early June snapshot of our numbers:

ABOUT DESTRUCTOID IN HAIKU
A community
Of hardcore gaming robots
DESTRUCTOID DOT COM
A BRIEF HISTORY
Destructoid was founded on March 16, 2006 by Niero, a web designer bored on his birthday pursuing something discussed hours prior with friends. The idea was to create a new gaming site, merge it with an existing site network, and use social engineering to get him and a friend into E3 2006, a media only event. We had two months to write articles and get them syndicated across other gaming media. It worked! By May the site had developed a cult following, so we just kept working hard at it until we suddenly grew into a proper serious gaming journalism business.
In short, Destructoid is here to entertain, inform, connect people, give the average gamer a strong voice, and collectively influence the industry -- for the love and bullshit-free longevity of our all time favorite hobby.
EDITORIAL POLICY
Accountability is very important to us, so we write from the heart. We've been called an (insert any console) fanboy site, but it couldn't be farther from the truth -- we hate everybody equally. At the end of the day, we're all about good games and don't really care about the industry's bottom line or publishing every minutia of press releases and problems. Dtoid is only about what is great and FUN. The rest was Lowenstein's problem until he quit the ESA, so I guess its up to us now.
"ZOMG YOU'RE SOOOOO WRONG ABOUT XYZ!"
If you find something that is inaccurate in the blog please let us know. If you just disagree, hit the comments or the forums. This site is about discussion and expressing opinions, not rewriting Wikipedia. Live with it -- and that means PR companies too. We may love you, but we can't love all of your clients all the time. Sometimes they're just goofy and deserve to be called on it.
WHY IS IT CALLED DESTRUCTOID?
Niero really likes robots, but more than anything the name is fitting -- the first articles ever published on the site were scathing criticisms of the stuffy game industry as we saw it. We wanted to change things, destroy and rebuild, make the industry take note that we were here to make noise and try things differently. Besides, there's enough companies called SuperGameWorldMag. We're different, and it had to start with a different name. It also sounds awesome. Think about it: DESTRUCTOID! We're also known as "Dtoid" for short.
WHAT IS WITH THE HELMET?
It goes back to our roots. How do two nobodys without a booth and an unheard of blog effectively tell an ocean of gamers preoccupied with next-gen consoles about a video game blog called Destructoid? Like they say ... you have to suffer for your art, so we showed up at E3 in a 20 pound metal Destructoid mask made out of air conditioner parts. The response was amazing, and the rest is history. Our logo is based on the classic 50's japanese toy "The smoking robot". We're big in Japan, they just don't know it yet. It is also extremely handy in the clutter of press events, as having a gigantic helmet makes it easy for our fans to find us quickly.
Side Projects & The Destructoid Network
We're also currently looking for writers for the other sites within our network. We play video games all day, but we're also really passionate about movies and gadgets. We're in the process of building and integrating those sites. Right now they are but little blogs, silently gaining momentum, ready to start trouble.
JAPANATOR.COM -- we love Japanese stuff
NEXTLUST.COM -- new technologies; what's next
MIAMINIGHTS.COM -- we live in Miami, so we write about it
MOVIEKICK.COM -- an upcoming movie recommendation site
