What’s a blog

A blog or Web log is a Web site that contains frequently updated content, written by one or more people, usually with a personal tone or quality.

Initially, blogs were primarily about personal topics — like an online diary, but now they’ve evolved to cover just about any topic imaginable. If you’d like more on the history of blogs, check out Rebecca’s pocket.

What’s a blogger?

Our bloggers will be Journal-Constitution reporters and columnists, who will update throughout the week with news and responses to some of your comments

What’s a permalink?

A link provided for each blog entry that will never change. Bloggers will link to each others permalinks to show others the interesting entries they’ve found. If you don’t have your own blog, it’s also perfect for e-mailing to friends, or bookmarking.

What’s a comment

Readers of a blog can provide feedback on the blog topic. This feature gives readers the chance to respond to the AJC, or to others who have commented on a topic. The AJC reserves the right to block access because of bad behavior. Read our Visitor Agreement for the full details.

How do I comment?

On any blog entry, look for a link like this:

Comments (0)

The number in the () is the number of comments so far — if it’s 0 then you can grab the top spot! You can click on that link to see the discussion so far, if any, and after that there will be a form where you enter your name, e-mail and comment. Click Post, and it should appear on the site within 5 minutes or so

When can I comment?

Most of our blogs are open for commenting from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. M-F, but each blog should have a notice of its commenting hours

How often can I comment?

You may only post a comment once every 20 seconds while commenting is open, other than that, the sky’s the limit!

What are the “rules” for commenting

  1. Above all, follow our Visitor Agreement.
  2. Don’t use ALL CAPS, it’s considered shouting.
  3. Be considerate. It’s OK to be funny, but it’s not OK to be offensive.
  4. Keep your language civil, what you post is seen by everyone who visits the page
  5. You may not post advertising for goods, services, products etc. to our comment areas
  6. You may not link to sites that contain graphic subject matter
  7. There can be a delay of up to 5 minutes after you hit “Post” before your comment appears. So don’t post the same comment twice.
  8. You may only post a comment every 20 seconds.
  9. Comments may be deleted at the AJCs discretion (Visitor Agreement)
