AUDIOSLAVE Frontman Explains Lyrical Inspiration For 'Be Yourself' - Apr. 8, 2005
Launch Radio Networks reports: AUDIOSLAVE finds itself at the top of the radio charts with "Be Yourself", the first single from the quartet's upcoming second album. Frontman Chris Cornell told Launch that events in his own life helped to inspire the song's lyrics. "The 'be yourself' part really just came from a lot of things that I've gone through in my life and a lot of different changes and all the different tragedies and all the horrendously stupid mistakes I've made in my personal life, and wanting to be able to make up for those things and wanting to be able to not be ashamed, all that stuff," he explained. "You know, that's the one thing about getting older that's better, and this song kinda says it so simply, to a degree that 10 years ago I would've been embarrassed to put it in a song 'cause it is so simple. But there it is."

AUDIOSLAVE recently filmed a video for "Be Yourself" an old hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The group's second album, "Out of Exile", is due out May 24. It's the follow-up to the band's self-titled, double-platinum 2002 debut.

AUDIOSLAVE — who feature in their ranks former SOUNDGARDEN singer Cornell and three members from RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE — begin touring on April 14 in Las Vegas.

It's hard to beleive that such a great singer and a band that has played some incredibly heavy jams can put out something mediocre and make millions from it.

My expectations were way to high for this linup, so I suppose it's my own fault for being dissapointed. There is a whole album worth of songs forthcoming though, see what happens...

COMMENT | I'd say that

Audioslaves debut album is much better than the efforts of other "supergroups" like velvet revolver. Soundgarden and RATM are both damn good bands to say at least, so of course people have high expectations. I really liked the first album, and having spending so much time making "Out of Exile", I expect Audioslave to make a killer album.

I saw Soundgarden's first Detroit show back in'89. Even then, half
the crowd was female. Go figure...

blessed be.

Chris is one the all-time great singers. I highly recommend "Euphoria Morning" to anyone who hasn't heard it.

the song has grown on me a bit, but still it's too simple for Chris. c'mon man, your songs used to be so intricate THAT'S WHY WE LOVED THEM!

I saw Lollapalooza a few years back at Jones Beach. Audioslave is not the greatest, but Chris shines.

Chris, Chris, Chris. What happened to you, dude? You used to be COOL!! Remember Soundgarden and Euphoria Morning? Oh god, I miss those days...

Audioslave licks copious amounts of balls, and I for one blame Tom "Look At My Shiny New Pedal Collection" Morello... if only Chris had had the sense to hook up with someone like Jerry Cantrell (who I believe is pretty much free as well)... now THAT would be a supergroup, and it's not like it'd be the first time they would have played together... Right Turn, anyone?

Mmm... Beer... c(_)

Their first album was much better than most music out there today. But yeah...I am greatly dissappointed with Audioslave to this point. Hopefully all the talk about this band gelling together and really improving is true. Judging from this single, though, it isn't. We'll just have to wait and see...

For everyone who hates Morello just give the guy a chance. So what if he uses effects jimy page and slash do and even hendrix did.IT SOUNDS GREAT.And it doesnt fucking matter because chris and tom are great friends. And to end my point i think Morello is a great guitarist.
