Welcome to the 2001 web edition of UK Defence Statistics, the annual statistical compendium of the Ministry of Defence. It contains a wealth of facts and figures about the armed forces, defence expenditure, service and civilian personnel and defence activities. If you have an interest in defence, either in the course of your work or for personal study, we hope that you will find this volume an invaluable reference tool.

UKDS complements two other MOD publications. The Ministry of Defence Performance Report - which deals with the performance of the MOD against the objectives and priorities set for it during the financial year - and the Consolidated Departmental Resource Accounts. These are both available from the TSO.

As part of DASA's commitment to National Statistics we regularly review our key products. Included with the paper copy of UKDS is a feedback form.
