SOTU Liveblog: Without a Net

Ok, we are TiVO-free tonight (NoonzWife is catching up on the Sunday primetime shows on our main TV), so this is going to be harder than normal. Michelle Malkin has links to many other State of the Union livebloggers here.

-Pregame: Bill O'Reilly and Dick Morris talking about energy policy. I believe a more coherent discussion on energy could be held between my 11-week-old son and my dog. Also, Dick Morris can barely fit his neck in his shirts. Easy on the portions, Dick.

-Calling to order. First Lady arrives. Everyone claps. Brit Hume sets the scene.

-This is Bush's 5th SOTU. Suck it, libs!

-Supremes walk in. Alito enters. Liberals across America destroy whatever vases are left in their homes.

-Cabinet enters. Don Rumsfeld is a badass.

-Report: Cindy Sheehan taken out of gallery in cuffs. She has been "detained." Unfortunately, not in Gitmo.

-Mrs. Alito: not crying.

-Cindy Dipshit apparently tried to unfurl a banner in the gallery. As I have said before, the woman has the intellect of a pencil. Go hug a Communist or something.

-POTUS announced.

-Gladhanding. Nancy Pelosi is a fraudulent jerk. What a fake smile. Oh wait, that's just the plastic surgery.

-Addresses death of Coretta Scott King.

-The state of the union is strong. Together we will make it stronger.

-9/11 reference. Dictators seek WMD. Democracy = Hope. Steps toward freedom make us safer.

-Half the world lives in democratic nations. We do not forget the other half.

-Islamic radicals: enemy of freedom. In perfect world, Prez would lump in the Democratic Party leadership here...

-Cannot retreat. No honor in retreat. We will never surrender. Translation: Jack Murtha, you are a defeatist hack.

-Iraq hard because enemy is brutal. Despite that, huge progress. We are going to win. Die terrorists.

-Road to victory is the road home for our troops. Military decides when, not coward pols in D.C.

-Defeatism, hindsight, second-guessing are not strategy. (Related: Democrats are not serious people.)

-Armed forces: Duty trumps fear. Pays tribute to Marine Staff Sgt Dan Clay. Dan left a letter: "I know what honor is. It has been an honor to serve and protect all of you." Dan's family present. Looong ovation.

-Remember military families. Everyone clapping, even hypocrite Dems who loathe the military and their families.

-To Hamas: Disarm. (Or die...)

-Iran: Nation held hostage. Must not gain nukes. (Read: Hey Mahmoud, the USS Ohio knows where you live.) To citizens of Iran: we respect you and want to be your friends. (Read: if the UN blows this one too, we're here to help.)

-Terrorism at home: remain on offensive. people defending us deserve support. Yes, Teddy K, that includes the NSA, who is protecting your fat ass.

-RENEW PATRIOT ACT. Dems all sit on their hands. Yes, it's ok to question their patriotism. And my Senator, Chris Dodd, smirks. Dodd is a huge disgrace.

-WE WILL NOT SIT BACK AND WAIT TO BE HIT AGAIN. Dems all sit on hands again. They are not patriots. They are partisans. Hillary smirks. Stays seated. That sound you hear is the 2006 elections swinging red in a huge way.

-Economy is kicking ass. We are creating more jobs than Europe and Japan combined.

-China, India new competition in global economy. Plugs immigrants as vital part of economy. This is code for illegals. Ugh, spare me.

-Tax cuts=good. No kidding.

-Make Tax cuts Permanent. Dems all stay seated because they are socialist pinkos.

-Give me line-item veto to kill earmarks.

-Congress did not act to save Social Security. Dems all get up and cheer. Hillary loves it. No wonder they are chronic losers.

-Noonz steps out for a moment...

-I'm back.

-Pass Med Liabilty Reform this year...

-Energy secton. Addicted to oil....invest inzero emission coal, solar, and nuke energy. More, better hybrid cars, hydrogen fuel cells, ethanol.

-Lofty goal: reduce mideast oil imports by 75% by 2025.

-Stay competitive by making the American worker more adept at the sciences and math.

-Encourage kids to take more math and science. wants 75,000 HS teachers to teach AP math and science. Hooray for education.

-Crime down. Abortion lowest in 30 yrs. Teen births declining. Personal responsibility is key...welfare reform, etc.

-Culture laundry list...

-Hat tip to the new Supremes: Roberts and Alito. Thanks Senate for confirming them. LOL.

-Asks for bans on human cloning, human/animal hybrids, other weird horror-movie type things.

-We now enter the New Orleans section of the speech. Hope, justice, opportunity, etc.

-Asks for reform of Ryan White Act. Wants more money so people in need of HIV/AIDS treatment can get it faster.

The last 20 minutes of this speech feel rushed, imo.

-Strong finish. God bless America.

Good speech overall. The first half was much stronger. As we got to the domestic policy laundry list, it weakened. The president is very good when talking about Iraq, Afghanistan, and the War on Terror. He is compelling, and the Democrats all look like utter fools when they sit down in naked partisanship on these matters. Americans see this and remember it on election day. That plays well over at Kos and DU, but not in Middle America.

Dem Response: Tim Kaine, Governor, VA

-Administration is mismanaging things.

-We have gone from huge surpluses to defecits over the last 5 years. Hey Tim, we were attacked and are at war. Schmuck.

-Tim Kaine is a lightweight....wow.

-Get your 2006 Camry today! Oh wait, this is still Tim Kaine.

-Kaine is not good with the teleprompter.

-"There's a better way." Ok, we get it. That's your message for the evening. It's lame.

-Kaine says every American supports the troops. Apparently, Kaine is not including his Democratic colleagues here.

-"There's a better way." This is laughably bad. I can't wait to go read Kos after this.

-I would not buy furniture from Tim Kaine.

-Immigration policy sucks. On this, I agree with Kaine. president is letting Dems get to the right on this...

-America must heal its partisan wounds and become one people. This is hilarious coming from a Democrat.

-Kaine has invoked God at least twice. He must not have gotten the memo from his party heads.

Other Blogger Reax:
  • Sister Toldjah, who hosted an open thread during the speech as she built her new TV stand (a success)
  • Instapundit, where Glenn has posted an email from an Iranian reader who liked the speech
  • La Shawn Barber, who was rightly disappointed in the President's empty rhetoric on illegal immigration. Nice comment thread there as well.
  • Brainster's Blog has a photo gallery of the Cindy Sheehan bust. It's heartwarming stuff.
  • Say Anything, where Rob has posted an awesome Tim Kaine photocomparison.
  • Peat Bog was on the same wavelength as Say Anything.
  • Expose the Left has video of Hillary yukking it up at, "We will not sit back and be hit again." What a great American.
  • Pam at Blogmeister USA was also unimpressed with the immigration section of the speech.
  • At The Jawa Report, Vinnie brings up a valid point: why no North Korea mention?
  • Babalu Blog's George Moneo and several of his commenters are very disappointed that Cuba was not mentioned. Again, good point. No Cuba? No NoKo? Missed opportunities...
