Cover Charges

By now, Palace readers will be aware of the murder of a pregnant Israeli woman and her four children by Islamo-Palestinian terrorists two days ago. The terrorist organization Hamas has claimed responsibility for the attack, which it called a “retaliation” for the Israeli execution of Hamas leader and murderer Abdel Aziz Rantisi.

By now, Palace readers will be aware that the governor of Zamfara state in Nigeria, which has recently proclaimed itself to be under Islamic shari’a law, has ordered the destruction of all houses of worship other than Islamic mosques. He has decreed this in keeping with the Qur’an’s command that the Muslim must “fight the unbeliever wherever you find him.”

By now, Palace readers will be aware that Sudan, the sole country in the world admittedly engaged in genocide—the systematic slaughter and enslavement of Sudanese Christians and animists by Sudan’s Islamic government— has been awarded a seat on the United Nations’ Human Rights Commission. The United States representative to that committee walked out in protest. The Sudanese accused the U.S. of “crying crocodile tears.” He emphasized the recent revelations of the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by American guards—deeds for which those guards will surely be severely punished.

Those are just the most prominent developments of the past few days.

We have repeatedly been told that “Islamism”—the extension of Islam into the political domain, and its promotion by coercive means—is a tiny aspect of Islam, that the vast majority of Muslims want nothing to do with it, and that non-Muslims ought not to hold the fanaticism and savageries of Islamists against decent, “moderate” Muslims. Note that Muslim mouthpiece organizations do not extend the same sort of presumption of majority innocence to America. A handful of soldiers behaving tyrannically toward the prisoners in their custody constitutes an adequate reason to condemn the entire American liberation and reconstruction effort in Iraq—indeed, to condemn the United States as a whole as an “enemy of Islam.” That was the theme of the recent Muslim street demonstrations in London, where pictures of the Twin Towers in flames were openly displayed, and where thousands shouted “Bomb London, Bomb New York” as their rallying cry.

Now and then, the dark glee of the Muslim cognoscenti breaks through the covers. Such was the case a short while ago with “Amir,” whose Web exchange with Robert Spencer made it plain that, whenever one elects to trust a Muslim to be a man of good will and humane principles, one is taking a considerable risk.

Islam of the purest, most savagely totalitarian water is flooding into American prisons. It’s being spread by Muslim “chaplains” eagerly admitted to the prisons by wardens who see Islam as a tool of control. As those inmates are released into normal society, they spread their acquired creed to others who come under their influence—and the influence of a man who’s done time in a hard place, sometimes referred to as “street cred,” is greater than one might like to believe.

Middle American communities, most of them as overwhelmingly Christian as Hamtramck, Michigan, are being pressed for special accommodations for local Muslims, including dispensations from the laws against disturbing the peace. The city of Vienna, Austria is hesitating over naming one of its public squares after founding Zionist Theodor Herzl, because local Muslims would be affronted by it. For the same reason, the city authorities of Santiago de Compostela, Spain plan to take down a statue of Saint James, patron saint of the Hispano-Gothic armies that ejected the Muslim Saracens from Spain.

What in God’s name is the West doing to itself? Why are we conciliating these people and their demands?

Western society in general and the United States in particular are founded on legal and philosophical principles to which Islam is utterly antithetical. Why else would Muslims be demanding special shari’a courts with the power to arbitrate disputes among Muslims and enforce their decrees—demands that have already been met in Canada? How long will it be before Muslims demand that such courts be given sole jurisdiction over any controversy involving a Muslim—even if the other disputants are not Muslims?

Is there nothing we will recognize as a firebreak, beyond which our ethic of tolerance must not extend?

If the Muslims spoken of here are not the dominant element in world Islam, then why have we heard nothing from their more agreeable brethren? Why are they silent? Why have they not risen to condemn the beasts of brutality and the ministers of intolerance who claim Islam for their mandate and justification? Why haven’t Muslim immigrants to America raised a cry of patriotism and appreciation for the country that has welcomed them and kept them safe from the oppressions of the homelands they fled?

Those who have called for an Islamic reformation are all “infidels”—non-Muslims --whom the imams, mullahs, and ayatollahs condemn out of hand as “enemies of Islam.” Yet the needed reforms all pertain to Islam’s exhortations to violence and its pursuit of temporal, political power over all men. Those dicta are what prevent Islam from being what it claims to be—a religious faith—and compel us to take it for what it truly is—a theologically camouflaged program for the conquest of the world.

When a man says, “I am your enemy,” it’s your Curmudgeon’s policy to believe him. The contrary assumption just hasn’t seemed to work out.

By now, Palace readers will be aware that Islam and its followers are toxic to human life.
