Westfield WestCity is owned by Westfield Trust.
Westfield WestCity first opened in 1974 as Henderson Square. The St Lukes Group redeveloped the Centre in 1997 and named it WestCity Shopping Centre.
In 2000 Westfield began a 16-month, $80 million redevelopment programme. The result was the first "Street" entertainment and leisure precinct in New Zealand, launched at WestCity in July 2001. The Street is an indoor avenue dedicated to leisure, entertainment and shopping so people can dine, shop and see a movie without ever having to move the car. The Street includes eight hi-tech SKYCITY movie theatres featuring Auckland's largest movie screen, stadium seating and state of the art sound system.
In May 2004, The Warehouse opened a new 6,000m² store in the centre. The new store plus adjacent retail increases the centre's GLA to just over 36,000m².
Westfield WestCity is a key commercial precinct for Waitakere City and, with the growth the city is experiencing, its' superior retail offer reinforces the heart of the city.
