Mantova call on Tesser
Monday 11 June, 2007

Attilio Tesser has been appointed to the helm of Mantova, confirmed the Serie B side on Monday.

“Mantova announce that Attilio Tesser is the new first team Coach,” read a statement on the club’s website.

“He signed a two-year deal tying him to the Biancorossi until June 30, 2009 and replaces Domenico Di Carlo, who did not renew his contract.

“Mantova wish to thank Mr Di Carlo for his professionalism, his commitment and most of all for the past four years.

“They have brought the team from Serie C2 to Serie B in two seasons, arriving within touching distance of Serie A last year, and we wish him all the best for the future,” concluded the note.

The 49-year-old Tesser started coaching in 1992 and made his Serie B debut in 2003 with Triestina before joining Cagliari in 2005, when he was axed after just one match.

In 2006 he replaced Marco Giampaolo at Ascoli, but was sacked in November when Nedo Sonetti was called in to take his place on the bench.

Tesser was reportedly one of the Bianconeri’s primary targets to replace Sonetti after his departure last week and had admitted that he would be happy to be given a second chance at Ascoli.

However, the tactician will now face his former club in Serie B next season following his appointment and Ascoli’s relegation.
