Basil Blackshaw

Blackshaw was brought up at Boardmills, Co. Down. He attended Methodist College, Belfast and Belfast College of Art 1948-51. In 1951 he was awarded a scholarship by the Committee for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts to study in Paris. Since then he has mainly worked in the Lagan Valley.

His work contains many landscape elements such as Colin Mountain and the Slieve Croob Hills. Horses, dogs and the world of fanciers and breeders form another important part of his subject matter. He has also painted formal portraits.
