Universal Pictures announced that principal photography has begun on Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, from writer/director Guillermo del Toro, which will film in Budapest and the United Kingdom.


Club Keanu reported that Keanu Reeves was offered a role in Zack Snyder's Watchmen movie but turned it down.

Robert Mark Kamen will write the screenplay for the upcoming computer-animated Gatchaman movie, based on the Japanese anime franchise created by Tatsuo Yoshida, about a team of superhero ninjas who must save the world from alien occupation.


Sylvain White has been set to direct Castlevania, a live-action film adaptation of the Konami vampire video game, which will shoot in the late fall in South Africa and Romania, Variety reported.


Fox constructed under cover of darkness a gleaming 100-foot mesh replica of the Silver Surfer on London's iconic Eye observation wheel on June 11 to promote Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, which opens June 15, according to The Hollywood Reporter.


CBS will begin airing reruns of the first season of its post-apocalyptic drama Jericho on July 6 in a new timeslot, Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT; Jericho returns mid-season with seven new episodes.

Gael Garcia Bernal, Danny Glover and Alice Braga are being cast in Fernando Meirelles' apocalyptic drama Blindness, joining Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo in a story about an epidemic of blindness that sweeps through a contemporary city and pushes society to the brink of breakdown, according to The Hollywood Reporter.


Gold Circle Films has picked up film rights to Thomas Wheeler's debut novel The Arcanum from Miramax, Variety reported; set in 1919, it follows a secret society of Arthur Conan Doyle, Harry Houdini, H.P. Lovecraft and Marie Laveau as it battles demons in New York, including a serial killer of angels.

 

Tea Leoni will star alongside Ricky Gervais and Greg Kinnear in writer-director David Koepp's Ghost Town, about a misanthropic dentist (Gervais) who dies for seven minutes during a colonoscopy and discovers upon revival that he can see the dead, Variety reported.

 

The comedy feature Escape From Planet Earth will be produced at Rainmaker Animation for a 3-D stereoscopic digital cinema release, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

 

A single from Michael Bay's Transformers, "Before It's Too Late (Sam and Mikaela's Theme)" by the Goo Goo Dolls, has been linked on the Web; the entire soundtrack, featuring cuts by Linkin Park, Smashing Pumpkins, Disturbed, The Used, HIM and Taking Back Sunday, will hit stores on July 3, the same day the film hits theaters.

 

The teaser trailer for Will Smith's upcoming SF movie I Am Legend has gone live and is linked through SCI FI Wire's Trailers page; the movie opens Dec. 14.
