Introducing the WebSeed Content Management System, offering a genuine breakthrough in speed, content control, scalability and security for 1/10th the cost of traditional CMS solutions

Do you have a large amount of text-based information that you need to put on the web, but you don't want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars licensing a traditional high-end Content Management System (CMS)? Look closely at the WebSeed Content Management System™. Developed by Mike Adams, an Internet technology pioneer, founder of Arial Software, and web content innovator, the WebSeed Content Management System™ has proven itself in real-world use for three years, creating and rendering content for over 700 unique web domains hosting tens of thousands of pages of hyperlinked, content-rich pages.

WebSeed CMS effortlessly renders large quantities of text-based content in an organized, concept-indexed, context-sensitive format that handles literally millions of site visitors with ease, all at a surprising fraction of the price of traditional Content Management Systems.

It's a genuine breakthrough in CMS that offers a truly revolutionary solution requiring no software, no installation, no server-side processing and no technical expertise on your part. Yet it's faster, more reliable, more secure, more scalable and far less expensive than traditional CMS solutions.

Here's some of what WebSeed CMS offers:

Renders any number of text content items

WebSeed CMS system handles from 1 to 100 million content items, easily rendering books, encyclopedias, massive lists or even entire libraries. It can handle any type of text-based content, including lists, reports, articles, records, books, titles, product descriptions and so on.

Massive scalability by design

Most Content Management Systems strain (and eventually break) under heavy traffic loads because they are driven by server-side scripts (ASP, CGI, PHP, etc.) In contrast, WebSeed CMS posts static web pages (HTML) that require absolutely no database connections, no web server farms and no heavy CPU use. Yet, as you'll see below, these HTML pages are highly interactive and intelligently rendered for conceptual hyperlinking, search engine optimization and enhancing the visitor experience with links to relevant content items.

Just how fast is WebSeed CMS? Thousands of times faster than a typical CMS solution. A server farm requiring 100 physical web servers to host content under a typical Content Management System can be reduced to a single web server under WebSeed CMS, even while handling the same traffic load (up to hundreds of millions of visits per day, depending on your server hardware and bandwidth).

The cost savings in hardware, maintenance and electricity are enormous. Typically, web server farm construction for handling large volumes of traffic and huge content collections might cost you $200,000 or more up front, and tens of thousands of dollars each month. But under WebSeed CMS, this cost can be slashed to a few thousand dollars up front and a few thousand each month. Plus, reliability, scalability, compatibility and simplicity are all significantly improved (see below).

This isn't just a slightly better CMS solution, this is a quantum leap in Content Management Systems technology.

No installation, zero technical knowledge needed

Most content management systems require enormous effort for installation and setup. Some take literally months of engineering and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees, and even those installation efforts fail approximately one-third of the time.

In contrast, WebSeed CMS requires no installation whatsoever and absolutely no engineering or technical knowledge on your part. There is no software you need to run, no special computer hardware you need to buy, and no exposing your internal database to outsiders.

Page templates allow for easy, site-wide updates of common content elements like footers, headers, etc.

WebSeed CMS is template driven, meaning we create one or more template pages that define the overall structure of your content pages. This template contains the common elements that you want to appear on all pages, such as the header, footer, navigation features, copyright, disclaimers, graphics, etc. WebSeed CMS uses this template as a starting point, then inserts the appropriate content for each unique page, rendering it as a static HTML file.

If you want to make a change to all the pages at once, you simply change this template file, re-render the content, and the changes ripple through all pages. This gives you total control over the presentation of your content while also making site-wide changes extremely efficient. Just update one page, not thousands, and let WebSeed CMS do the rest.

Unbeatable cross-platform compatibility

Because WebSeed CMS creates plain HTML files, they are 100 percent compatible with every browser, including Internet Explorer and FireFox. The files are readable on any platform: Mac, PC, Linux, etc.

There are no special Javascript or ActiveX components used, so WebSeed pages are fully compatible with both modern and ancient web browsers (IE 1.0, for example). This means high satisfaction from your visitors and significant savings on customer service costs due to the elimination of complaints about page compatibility errors.

Blazing fast response time for visitors

No Content Management System delivers pages to visitors faster than WebSeed, period. That's because WebSeed CMS renders plain HTML files and uses absolutely no live scripts or server-side processing whatsoever. So the web server doesn't need to perform calculations, open a database, or decide what to render. It simply delivers plain HTML files, a process that is literally thousands of times faster than delivering database-driven files.

A typical high-end web server running a database-driven CMS would strain under a mere 100 page requests per second. But using WebSeed CMS, that same web server can serve tens of thousands of WebSeed CMS pages per second, with blazing fast response times to users.

This is crucial for handling traffic spikes, where a surprising number of visitors suddenly slam your web site with page requests. WebSeed CMS scales easily from thousands of visitors to millions of visitors, usually without requiring any additional investment in web server hardware on your part. In contrast, a typical database-driven CMS system requires massive investments in an entire bank of web servers in order to handle millions of requests per day.

All this translates into blazing fast page loads for your visitors. No delays means higher user satisfaction and enhanced credibility for your organization (nothing looks more unprofessional than a slow-leading web page).

The drawback? WebSeed CMS does not serve personalized page content to individual users (like the Amazon.com store does by serving up unique pages to each visitor based on their past purchase behavior). But this also has advantages, too. There are no cookies used, so the privacy of your visitors is well protected. And since WebSeed CMS pages do not collect behavior data on individual visitors, there's no risk of being hacked and losing data to cyber criminals.

Virtually immune to distributed denial of service attacks (DDoS)

Because of the simplicity and speed of the HTML pages created by WebSeed CMS, your website (and all its content) becomes virtually immune to hackers and DDoS attacks. Such attacks are very effective against typical CMS-driven websites, because each page request results in CPU usage and a database transaction (which is extremely slow and often requires disk access). By merely using a few hundred zombie computers (PCs that have been taken over by viruses or trojan horses), hackers can bring down almost any website running on a traditional CMS platform.

But content sites created by WebSeed CMS are virtually immune to such attacks because hackers would need hundreds of times as many computers to bring down your website. Why? Because sites powered by WebSeed CMS never require database activity or high CPU usage to serve web pages. Additionally, disk access is virtually eliminated due to standard caching by web servers like IIS. Thus, even a well-funded team of hackers controlling thousands of PCs would have a very difficult time overloading a web server hosting WebSeed CMS content pages. The bandwidth would probably tap out before the web server did.

This is critical because one of the newest cyber crimes now hitting the Internet is website extortion, where DDoS hackers threaten to crash your site during peak hours unless you pay them a "protection fee." Fail to pay the fee, and your web server gets slammed with thousands of HTTP requests per second, which will easily cause most content management systems to crash. But WebSeed CMS pages can handle the load far more effectively, offering virtual immunity to DDoS attacks.

Of course, a sophisticated hacker with enough time, money and motivation can round up enough computers to bring down any website, but if your site is hundreds of times more costly to threaten than other sites, chances are the extortion artist will just move on to easier prey.

Outstanding search engine compatibility for natural, organic rankings

WebSeed CMS pages are automatically designed for maximum search engine visibility and indexing. This is crucial for several important reasons. First, WebSeed pages are all keyword indexed, tokenized and cross-linked to each other (unless you don't want them to be) in a way that provides highly-relevant hyperlink anchor text to search engines (which boosts natural rankings).

Secondly, the page names under WebSeed CMS can contain keywords, too. So a page name might be car_parts_021.html, which is important for search engine rankings (the search engines consider the page name to be important). In contrast, a typical CMS might have a ridiculously long page URL like handler.asp?q=8374837483%20%20aeeeiauei%75%75 which is meaningless to search engines.

Third, the WebSeed template used to render your content is, by design, maximized for natural search engine rankings. The title, meta tags, image tags, headlines and text content all contain keywords specific to each page, providing search engines multiple clues about what concepts are relevant to that page. This, again, translates into vastly improved natural search engine rankings.

Fourth, WebSeed CMS generates context-sensitive inbound links to each of your pages automatically. Across your entire content database, WebSeed analyzes each of your pages and assigns a density score for potentially thousands of possible keywords and keyword phrases (using a glossary unique to your topics). Pages are then hyperlinked on relevant keywords so that visitors can easily explore all the content you have to offer. This results in impressive numbers of inbound links for each of your pages, using precisely the keywords and phrases for which that page is highly scored.

This is no trick. It's just really good hyperlinking that makes the reader experience enjoyable and more convenient while simultaneously creating a linking structure across your content that is super search engine friendly. This is the power of the web at its best.

Absolutely unbreakable security

The security of WebSeed CMS is absolutely unbreakable. That's a strong claim, but it's immediately obvious once you understand the technology: Nothing "runs" on the web server. There is no database to break into, no server scripts to hack. Just plain HTML files, intelligently rendered from a different location, that cannot be hacked. Your original data is never connected to the Internet in any way, so the risk of data exposure or data loss is exactly zero.

Handles both "flat" content and relational content

WebSeed CMS easily renders so-called "flat" content, which means items that are self-contained like articles, reports and other documents. But it also handles "relational" content, meaning interrelated content that can be viewed from multiple angles.

For example, the Foods / Diseases database shown at www.HealingFoodReference.com is based on a content database describing the relationship between healing foods and various diseases. This content, which was entirely rendered by WebSeed CMS, can be viewed as a list of foods, or a list of diseases. Each food page lists the diseases helped by those foods, and each disease page lists the foods that may help treat or prevent that disease.

This is called "relational" content, and this food reference database offers only a small example of the capabilities of WebSeed CMS. If you have a much larger collection of relational content, WebSeed CMS can handle that, too.

Intelligent keywords and concepts analysis

Part of what makes WebSeed CMS so effective is its intelligent analysis of page content to determine which concepts most closely relate to other pages on your site. This analysis is a tokenized, weighted algorithm that indexes each of your content items across multiple keywords and concepts.

WebSeed CMS can determine, for example, that your page is primarily about "American history" with a score of 100%, but that it is also about the "American Revolution" at 60% and the "Civil War" at 40%. This intelligent algorithm is similar to the ones used by search engines like Google, and it allows WebSeed CMS to build intelligent indexes for your content as well as to hyperlink related content in a way that makes intuitive sense to users.

For example, a NewsTarget article powered by WebSeed CMS (see www.newstarget.com/019342.html ) is entitled, "Experts say antidepressant drugs cause suicides instead of preventing them." WebSeed CMS analyzed the document and determined it was about three key concepts: Prozac, suicide and antidepressants.

Under the hood, the article was analyzed for thousands of concepts, but these three were the most relevant concepts. Notice how, in the right column, WebSeed CMS automatically recommends other articles on conceptually-related topics:

  • "Achieve optimum mental health by supplementing deficient brain chemicals instead of resorting to dangerous antidepressant drugs"
  • "National Paxil Protest invites antidepressant drugs victims to join public outcry against GlaxoSmithKline"
  • "Eli Lilly lied about Prozac, hid suicide evidence, charges Harvard psychiatrist"
  • "Prozac may stunt bone growth in children, new research suggests"
  • "Eli Lilly knew Prozac had 1200% higher suicide rate than other antidepressants"
  • "European drug regulatory agency warns doctors about antidepressant drug and suicide risks, but in the U.S., the FDA remains silent"
Also notice how, throughout the page text, certain keywords are highlighted and linked to corresponding WebSeed pages that aggregate related content on those keywords. In the second paragraph, for example, the word Prozac is highlighted, linking to www.WebSeed.com/Prozac.html where visitors find not only a selection of highly relevant articles on Prozac, but also, in the left column, a list of about a dozen closely-related concepts that link to other WebSeed pages.

This entire structure is automatically created by WebSeed CMS. In various forms, this technology can be directed to recommend related articles, place related product or service ads, recommend action items to web visitors and many other things. The choice is yours.

Automatically builds indexes and TOCs

Because WebSeed CMS builds a concept map for each content item, it is able to use that same information to automatically generate index pages or a Table of Contents for your site. To see an auto-generated table of contents, see:www.HealingFoodReference.com and notice the foods list in the left column.

This feature is important for two reasons. First, it saves you and your team a tremendous amount of time by automating the index building effort. Second, it makes your site more search engine friendly and quickly links search engine crawlers to the available content across your site. This is one reason why WebSeed-powered sites have such high natural search engine rankings.

Fully compatible with ads, forms, videos, Javascript and ActiveX components

Even though WebSeed CMS generates plain HTML files, those files can readily contain other active components, if desired, including Javascript, ActiveX and Ajax. Web pages can also contain audio, video, documents, forms, surveys or other content elements.

Reasonable pricing at about 1/10th the typical cost

Many content management systems will cost you $100,000 / month or more. Some charge millions of dollars per year. They also require steep setup and installation fees, and can take weeks to get installed, burning up countless hours of your in-house technical staff (who aren't cheap). Even then, more than 30% of all CMS projects fail or are abandoned for various reasons.

WebSeed CMS is refreshingly different (and surprisingly affordable). It costs a fraction of these prices, often about 1/10th the price of a typical CMS from a traditional vendor.

WebSeed CMS charges a reasonable monthly fee based on the number of content items being handled and the number of content refreshes desired each month. A one-time setup fee covers data packaging, template creation, keyword tokenizing and the first rendering.

How WebSeed CMS works

If there's no software to install and no special server scripts to run, how does WebSeed CMS work?

WebSeed CMS is a service, not a software product. Simply stated, we render your content for you. Here are the steps:

  1. You send us your content. We accept text files, Word .Doc files, Excel, Access, physical paper, etc.
  2. We clean, organize and structure your content in an Access database.
  3. Using WebSeed CMS technology, render your web pages (including all concept analysis, hyperlinking, indexes, related content links, etc.) from that database.
  4. We send you the rendered HTML files or upload them, via FTP, to your hosted website. We also send you the Access database that you can now use to add more content or modify existing content.
That's all there is to it. Any time you want to add new content or change existing content, you simply add new content items to the database, then send us the updated database. We render it again and upload the results. You can also change any content in your database, and you'll see those changes updated following the next render.

WebSeed CMS can render your content on any frequency you want: Daily, weekly, monthly or at your request. So you can add new content as often as you like.

This approach to content gives you total control over your content via your content database (which is essentially a large spreadsheet where you place content items).

Who needs it?

WebSeed CMS is useful for any organization that has a large amount of text-based content that needs to be placed on an Intranet or Internet site. Some of the organizations that may benefit from this technology include:
  • Newspapers, magazines and other publishers (including book publishers) with large volumes of archived content they would like to put online.
  • Online retailers with a large number of catalog items (thousands, perhaps) that wish to post those items in a cross-linked, search-engine-friendly format that helps visitors find and browse related items.
  • Non-profit organizations that would like to place articles, letters, position papers or other content online. This helps further the mission of the non-profit by enhancing its search engine presence, attracting more readers and establishing it as an authority on relevant topics.
  • Government departments and offices that have a public obligation to post large collections of content (like public records or reports), but do not have the budget for high-end content management systems.
  • Schools and universities that wish to post course information, document archives, news or other information, without spending millions of dollars.
  • Libraries or similar organizations that control large content collections who wish to publicly post indexes or summaries of that content. In a library setting, WebSeed CMS could index book titles, build content lists, and recommend related titles to readers.
For those organizations that have paper content to be converted into digital content, WebSeed offers high-speed, professional-quality scanning and OCR conversion. This process has already been used to scan and convert over 700 hardbound books into a massive in-house searchable library.

Why put content online?

Many organizations have large collections of content right now, but they're not sure why they might want to put that content online. Here are a few reasons why placing content on the web is so advantageous:
  • Content can generate revenue through the placement of Google Adsense ads. When visitors click on the ads, you get paid by Google.
  • Content can boost search engine rankings, attracting potentially thousands of daily visitors to your site, where you can direct them to your products, services or mission.
  • Content can build your in-house email list by encouraging visitors to subscribe. Need an email subscription engine? We've got one that's used by hundreds of webmasters, and it's free for all WebSeed CMS clients.
  • Establish your organization as the authority on relevant topics. The more content you have on any topic, the higher your perceived credibility.
  • Contribute to the global knowledge base. Your content may provide important information for someone who needs it. By posting content online, you allow search engines to index it, thereby allowing it to be found by those who may benefit from it.
