Subject: George H. Bush's Former Deputy Secretary of Agriculture
to Speak to Cal Poly Class Dec. 6

Members of the media are invited to a classroom presentation by George
H. Bush's former deputy secretary of agriculture, Jack Parnell, at 10
a.m. Dec. 6 in Room 100 in the Erhart Agriculture Building at Cal Poly.

Parnell will speak as part of Professor J. Scott Vernon's agricultural
leadership course. His talk will focus on the need and importance of
leadership in the agricultural industry. He will also share his
lifetime of experiences as a successful livestock auctioneer,
entrepreneur and public servant.

Parnell served as California's secretary of agriculture during former
governor George Deukmejian's administration, and in 1989 then-President
Bush appointed him to his cabinet as the deputy secretary. He served in
that position until May 1991.
