FormFox 1.6, by Daniel W. Steinbrook, released on Apr 8, 2006

Do you know where your form information is going? This extension displays the form action (the site to where the information you've entered is going.) In any place where you can enter data, from search boxes to order forms, mouse over the final Submit button to reveal the destination.

Works with:

Firefox 1.5 - 2.0 ALL

Version Notes

Per request of Chris Shiflett (http://shiflett.org/archive/186), submit buttons now turn yellow (when hovering) for forms submitting data with SSL encryption.

Developer Comments

This extension is based on Hiroshi Shimoda's Popup ALT Attribute extension for images.

Forms are marked unsafe when there are JavaScript actions associated with the submit button, meaning that the data will be processed before it is sent. Most of the time, forms marked as "possible trickery" will be safe.

A button turning yellow indicates that the form is being submitted with encryption (over HTTPS).

it would be better if there are options for disabling yellow button and showing link in status bar instead of pop up.

    Is Gmail unsafe?

    by y0ni , Jun 28, 2006

When I'm hovering Gmail's sign-in button, Formfox turns the button into yellow and warns me that the link behind the button is "possible trickery". What does this warning mean? And where is this warning based on? In my opnion the warning is false because the link behind this button (of Gmail) is just submitting data with SSL encryption and therefor pretty safe.

    Comforting to know

    by know1 , Apr 23, 2006

(winxp / fx 1.5.0.2) Comforting to know where your forms/personal info are being sent. And if there is some other way to know on-the-spot, then it couldn't possibly be any simpler or more reliable than FormFox. No options to select & it's super-easy install. Thanks.
