Sylpheed confirmed for US
Space shooter for Xbox 360 making its way across the Pacific this summer via Microsoft; Vampire Rain also confirmed for summer release.
Late last month, online retailers EB Games and GameStop posted a listing for Project Silpheed, an Xbox 360 shooter previously released by Square Enix in Japan. Unfortunately, it looks like EB and GameStop got it wrong...about the spelling that is.
Project Sylpheed, as it is also known abroad, will be coming to the US this summer, Microsoft confirmed today. Developed by Japanese game studios Game Arts and Seta Corporation, the game will be published domestically by Microsoft Game Studios. The shooter is a 3D update of the arcade game Silpheed and features more than 50 minutes of CG cutscenes.
In addition to confirming Project Sylpheed for the US, Microsoft also confirmed that another Japanese-developed Xbox 360 game, Vampire Rain, will also be available this summer. Vampire Rain is a stealth-based shooter featuring a special agent hunting down creatures of the night on the West Coast of the United States.

Man I cant wait to get my hands on this one, Im soo stoked about it. Square Enix did a nice job story wise on kingdom hearts 1&2. So I hope they put as much effort to make this story as engaging. My big fear, is that someone will make the decision to pull out the storyline, like they did with some of the Ace combat games, ad just make em: "destroy this X to proceed to next level."

Regarding Project Sylpheed: about bloody time. And hopefully they will take a page from Ace Combat 5 and give players the option of English voiceovers, or original dialogue w/subtitles.
Vampire Rain sounds interesting, but from what I'm reading here, it sounds like this idea should've been pitched to Ubisoft...

Wow this game looks interesting. The CG cutscenes look beautiful too, it really captures the whole anime look and feel better than any other game I have seen. Square Enix rocks too, I'm sure this game will be great.

Do another Einhander! That game was awesome, but tough!

Interesting how this game is very slowly gaining sequels. Very enduring. I remeber it WAY back on the Sega CD. And ditto on Einhander.

@Yuck_Foo; I was referring to Vampire Rain rather than Sylpheed, by all accounts Vampire Rain is a terrible waste of potential, can't say I've paid much attention to Sylpheed... not really to my taste.

"Just what the 360 needs........another shooter"
~~~~~
Just what this place needs, more blind posters...It's a space combat sim...more like a flight simulator and is not a FPS.
If the game is as cool as it looked in the japanese trailer then it's gonna be awesome! Definitely going to keep my eyes on this game.
Square and Sylpheed? I have the original SILPHEED for Sega CD and that was done by Data Arts or something like that. But anyway, that game for Sega CD was fantastic. Weird for Square to make a Sylpheed or Silpheed game when they could just revive Einhander, which was also a great shoot em up.
If the graphics are as bad as they seem then just port it to PS3, with the dirge of releases of Sony's disc player (games console wannabe) they'll take any game they can get there hands on.
I have vampire rain. the japanese version comes with full english dialouge and menus. Unless they completely revamp the engine and do some serious tweeking to the gameplay mechanics, then it would be foolish to even buy the game. The graphics are horrendous! The same or worse than bullet witch. The gameplay is on par with first generation consules. I dont know what the devolpers were thinking when they released this game. I just feel bad for anyone that shells out 60 bucks for this game. Sorry to burst anyones bubble. But you've been warned.
Having read an import review of Vampire Rain, which supposedly hits the UK in July the word "Average" springs to mind, potential wasted.
I still remember playing Sylpheed on my Sega-CD, and the PS2 version was a good through-back for shooter fans. This is great news! This is one genre (along with 2D fighting) that should never be allowed to die. BTW, Keep up the great work getting Japanese Dev's bringing their games to the 360. I bought a PS3 thinking Microsoft would never be able to pull it off. Cheers.
Sylpheed was awesome for the Sega Saturn and pretty good for the Ps2, so I can only imagine how great it will be for the 360. Bring back Radiant Silvergun!!!!
It's a shame it doesn't seem to have a cockpit view like I was hoping for. Space shooters are few and far between these days, and I'm always hoping for one to come along that has the quality of the Dreamcast version of Starlancer. It was the only space shooter I've seen to actually give you the feeling of being in a zero-gravity jet flying at high speeds, and it had great intense missions with loads of likeable characters that never seemed to run out of things to say. If Project Sylpheed can pull off at least some of that, I'll be interested.
Yay! One of the first games I played on the Sega CD, and I still have fond memories of it. Not sure about the new perspective the screen shots seem to show off, but hopefully they will make it work.
"Both of these games sound pretty cool. Too bad I don't own a 360. Maybe when the price drops to $300 or less...."
I hope you realize the Core retails for $299. Or if you want the premium, Dell.com has the premium system with Gears of War for $399.
"One more platform-exclusive title may be going multiplatform, it has been revealed. The latest news appears to be that Square Enix's latest epic role-playing game, Final Fantasy XIII, may follow other titles--including Saints Row, Assassin's Creed, and Devil May Cry 4--that have now been announced as appearing on at least one other platform as well.
